BANGKOK: -- An Ayutthaya man was arrested yesterday after he stumbled upon a large quantity of drugs hidden in the forest and gave them away to his friends to sell, according to police.

Prajuab Kanpetch, 41, was caught with 470,000 pills of yaba at his home after police were notified that many local dealers had obtained free drugs from Prajuab.

Prajuab, who collects and sells products from the forest for a living, was reportedly looking for fish in a forest near Asia Road when he saw a man hide seven backpacks before driving away in a white Chevrolet, Pol. Sutthi Puangpikul, a police investigator, said in a press conference yesterday.

Really !!

Must have been on drugs beforehand.

Have you never heard of forests having rivers and streams running through them? They often have fish in them, oddly enough.

He's in deep no matter where he ends up now. It's not like it was gold or money. He should have called the cops and taken a cut of the residuals.

Not now ST there is a drought, no streams, no water, no fish, just rocks. Just trying to be helpful.

If I were him I would be watching out for a man with 7 backpacks who might be a little pissed that his investment was distributed like this.

I'm suprised these ya-ba tablets don't end up in australia............harder border controls but pills would sell for 4 times as much.....

Packages not that space consuming when you look at them....

AYUTTHAYA: -- Local officials and community leaders in Phra Nakhon Sri Ayudhya district of Ayutthaya province were told by the police to look for some 300,000 methamphitamine pills said to be distributed free to local residents by a man who claimed to have stumbled on about 700,000 pills and 10 kgs of Ice in roadside bushes.

Residents in the district were warned to return the drug they received from the man, identified as Mr Prachuab Kanpetch, in two days otherwise they may face arrests on narcotic trafficking charges, said Pol Col Puwadit Chanakotchapat, deputy commander of Ayutthaya provincial police.

Latest report said that about 4,000 ya baa pills were found in a bag left in the roadside bushes in Tambon Hantra.

Prachuab claimed that he found 700,000 ya baa pills in packs in bushes along the Asian highway in Bang Pahan district after he saw a men alight from a car and threw something into the bushes before driving away.

He claimed that he handed out about 300,000 pills to villagers in Tambon Hantra so that they could sell them to make some revenues to settle their debts and kept the rest.

Sounds like a very solid business plan to me!

Your not by any chance a government economic advisor are you?

So much for community based "returning happiness to Thai people". I would suggest any who might consider turning in the drugs to first pulverize the pills, or maybe soak in nam pla, etc to make the pills unmarketable. Just a thought, I am sure no danger those pills might be resold..... wink.png

otherwise they may face arrests on narcotic trafficking charges

Technically anyone in possession of such illegal drugs for whatever reason and for whatever amount of time can be arrested and charged. Possession laws are unjust as there are many circumstances in which anyone can become in possession of illegal drugs unintentionally or without knowledge that the package contains such a substance. Even the assumption that possession of a particular amount constitutes "trafficking" is unjust when there may be no evidence of actual trafficking. The consequences of being charged and convicted just for possession can be far more damaging to live(s) than the consumption of the drugs.

A lot of media hype is placed on the retail value of illegal drugs, when in reality if it hadn't been made illegal the value may be as much as other recreational drugs like ethanol or Sildenafil ("Sidegra", "Kamagra", "Viagra").

The entire system of drug laws needs to be overhauled with less extremism and fanaticism on "cracking down" on substances that aren't as bad as they have been made out to be. The taxes that we pay to the government are being heavily wasted on these kinds of relatively harmless events. The police should focus on working on cases that involved actual violent crime.

I would go so far as to say that there is NO SUCH THING as a SAFE drug.

Everything has a reaction

By what I read there were 7 backpacks stashed, the very observent hunter/gather took 3 bags and gave away a lot of the contents to people who he felt were in need of the oppurnity to make some money.

There are still 4 backpacks of drugs out there waiting for discovery /pickup . a potential pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The treasure hunters will be out in force. You have to admit Prachuab is a generous fellow with other peoples property, but he apparently kept a sizable amount for his own benifet. sounds like word is out and some of who were given some of the dope have dumped it and are probably hopimg Prachuab forgets who all he gave samples to. At least it got a sizable amount of yaba out of circulation (maybe)

Yes, there is no such thing as a 100% safe drug. Too much of anything can kill you. People have even died from drinking too much water.

But different drugs have different levels of harm.

Look at the Methamphetamine bar and how narrow the "harm to others" section is.

Why should the police waste time on a case like this?

Was there any violence involved?

Was there any property damage or loss?

Was anyone defrauded?

Are the substances explosive or radioactive?

Mankind needs protection from itself – What a surprise!
Abuse of any drug harms or kills lives, period! - There’s simply no counter argument!!
Illegal drug possession demands accountability – No compromise or corruption!
The issue of liability or not and the consequences is why there is a justice system - No valid contest for doing without!
Water is not a recreational drug, but essential for life – Try abandoning the ridiculous side of the liberal camp; see what happens!

I assume you are being facetious. If not, then it's simple- and narrow-minded ignorance.

Try abandoning the ridiculous side of the liberal camp; see what happens!

Try to do some real reserarch into drugs, their history, and the many different areas related to it (health and medicine, politics, propaganda and scare-mongering, law, justice and history of drug policy, organized crime, racism, religion and spirituality in various cultures, human rights, psychotherapy and treatment for conditions like PTSD, philosophy and consciousness exploration, recreation and entertainment, art and creativity). Then let's see if your views change afterward and we can then have some intelligent discussion / debate.
