Buying a bike from Mityon Pattaya with a TR Visa ?

Actually I'm on a Visa exempt for 30 days, and I believe under the new rules, renewable for another 30 days.

I asked Mityon and according to them it's possible to purchase a new bike from them with just a TR visa, without the blue and yellow book stuff. All I need is pay them 1,000 baht for admin work to be done at the Immigration. They will need for passport for a day, though.

Elsewhere in the Internet, I'm often told a foreigner cannot buy a new bike without at least a 3-month non-immigrant Visa.

Can I trust Mityon ?

You don't need a visa to buy a bike, but you do need a resident certificate from immigration in Jomtien, which is easy to get, even if your only in a hotel

Sounds like Mityon have a hook-up with someone at Immigration. Although some would say 1000 baht for a certificate of residence which is free (but they always charge a nominal fee) is too much, having the dealer do that part of the legwork is worth it IMHO.

They all charge B1000 to do the reg .Except if your buying a new bike it should be included in the price .

You can BUY a motorbike, car, airplane, or yacht...the relevant question is if you can register ownership of it and then drive it in Thailand.

Maybe ask them on FB https://www.facebook.com/pages/Department-Of-Land-Transportation-Banglamung/218379991553246

He can drive it from the first day, but the issue is that the green book (proof of ownership) only arrives after 2-3 months.. OP will need somebody reliable to pick this up in the shop..

The op is asking about buying a motorbike in relation to his visa status. The point I'm making is there is no relationship between the two. An illegal Rohingya from Myanmar could walk into any bike shop in Pattaya and if he had a big enough wad of cash they'd sell him a bike. What he could do with it after that is none of their concern or responsibility.

Yes, I implied that already. But if you're a lazy gobsh!te with a wedge like me, why bother going to Jomtien when the dealer will do it all for you? Save 800 baht which is a skinfull of beers or a bucket of pingpong balls or dinner for two or a short time depending on what floats your boat.

So I can purchase the bike in my own name (which in proper context means registered ownership) regardless of my visa status?

Yes, I don't mind paying Mityon to handle my paperwork.

Is Certificate of Residence necessary ? The guys at Mityon didn't mention a word.

Anyway, can the same be said about cars ? Or are the criteria for ownership of cars more stringent ?

Car and bike have the same requirements. Yes, you need proof of your Thai address (certificate of residence), that is where the guys at Mityon will have a shortcut with Jomtien immigration.

However !!!! The ownership document - blue book for car, green book for bike - only arrive after 2-3 months! How do you intend to pick them up, since you are on a short stay Visa excempt? That is your main concern.

I can fly back to Pattaya. After all, my bike is there.

If the OP is buying a bike or a car, it's safe to assume that he's probably planning on 'living' here so being in the country when the rego books are ready maybe isn't a major issue. He can always designate a trusted individual such as a lawyer to collect on his behalf or possibly a signed and witnessed agreement for the dealership to hold the machine in his absence. Otherwise, as long as the bike or car is locked up somewhere safe, I don't think the risk of it disappearing before the ownership paperwork shows up is very likely.

I plan to leave it at my condo, and as and when I travel to Pattaya, I get to use it. If the condo is rented out, I can offer to rent the bike to the tenant as well.

I hope most "Farangs" are okay with Honda Zoomer X, as my condo housekeeper insists that Farangs are only interested in Honda PCX.

Tell Mityon to hold the book 'til next visit, no pompom.

Prolly won't take more than a week or so tho.

Let us know how it turns out.

At Jomtien it's 300 baht for a long time already, more than 1 year,

and 500 baht if you need 2.
