UK Medical Regulations

I am a British citizen, but have not resided there for nearly 40 years. I stopped paying my national insurance years ago.

I am wondering, after serving in HM Force and still receiving a military pension, would I be entitled to a free medical check on my next UK visit. Please don't misunderstand, if I have to pay then I am fine with that, but does my military background count for anything ?

i know of a friend of mine who had to reside in the UK for 6 months before he could be eligible for NHS treatment.

Not sure that a ex Serving member of HM Forces would have to do the same, best write to your local GP and ask.

You are not entitled to receive other than emergency care/treatment from the NHS.

Easy to arrange whatever you need/want from one of the private health care providers.

if your pension is a veterans medical pension and your check up /treatment is directly related to said pension then yes you can claim free treatment

Complete and utter rubbish, the OP is talking about the UK.

War Pension recipients and their families are covered as stated if they fall Ill in UK. Thankfully we didn't need to test it while there but had the appropriate details in order to neuter any jobs worth in the system who thought otherwise.

It all hinges on having an address and GP there I think. Having said that, there are lots of walk-in clinics nowadays, open to all. Just get in there and give them your NW number. If they ask for address, quote last one. I would say you are more deserving than most people for treatment. All the best.

Those NOT living in the UK who are receiving a 'war pension' should not assume they are entitled to NHS treatment.

You should perhaps take a close look at current NHS guidelines along with HMG's measured commitment to the military covenant to which they have repeatedly been dragged kicking and screaming....

Let's be clear, the complete shambles that is the UK these days, you can chance your arm and rock up to your nearest GP and hope for the best. What are they going to do if you're found out? Arrest you?

Go home and make an appointment and don't mention about being abroad. End of.

He who dares wins.
