Donate it to poor people. She has probably done a dis-service to genuine people in need who have nothing, because folk might think twice in giving. Unless she wasn't quite with it and didn't know about the bank account... bah.gif

Didn't know about the account, maybe didn't care. Pun Anoma wasn't living the high-life. Give it to charity.

Some of the Farang misers who smuggle 7-11 beers into Mall food courts have 20 times (or more) as much squirreled away, too cheap to part with a few more baht and enjoy a cold one served by so-called "pretties" in Chang dresses.

When they die same fate, unless a Will states otherwise monies handed off to indifferent relations who never could give a toss when they were alive.

You are looking at it the wrong way. People give as a form or merit making. It doesn't matter is this person knew it was a scam or not, the people who gave, gave in the spirit of merit making.

Forget the western idea of helping someone, not that anyone does in the West, and consider it in terms of the East

Kindly of sad that we all pay small amount for beggars to eat, it turned out to be a great profession. Time to check all million baht accounts in Thailand ?

It does not mean that we should stop our help, but judge before you pay.

Maybe some locals are big on the merit making, but my wife and her friends don't seem to be. If they give, it's usually for a reason, and because they DID want to help the person.

Probably didn't know him/herself he/she had the money. Demented. Very possible.

As for westerners not helping others in the west. Yet another stupid comment on TVF.

In a radius of 1km where i live back home there are a dosen charity places (latitudinarian, christian, muslim and jewish) who give free food, free clothing, etc.

These places are not government sponsored but 100% goodwill of more fortunate people.

Dana (charity), is the first of the ten wholesome ways, these are the 10 ways to make punna (merit), the idea of dana being to give without seeking return, unconditional generosity. It is only in the formal act of giving merit to monks that the belief is held of a return of wealth in the afterlife.

'Forget the Western idea'? What on earth made you think charity was a Western concept? It is Muslims who give by far the most in charity, is Islam a western religion?

At 85 she would only have to sock away 48B/day. smile.png

Do you think 1.5 million baht is a lot for a life's work. Lucrative, my arse.

Are you an English teacher?

Does anyone know K. Pun's history?

Seems a lot of people are understanding the 1.5 million was accumulated only through begging.

Would be quite an achievement IMO.

Yes there are many a good people in the west and lots of millionaires are into philanthropy 2 .

Probably not every elderly beggar having a squirreled away fortune has the same reason, but I’d like to know for sure what those reasons are. I’ve only my own theories to hold onto. Of course, these cases are very rare, but happen in the West, too, and include ones not begging but living extremely frugally.

So she started begging as soon as she got out of the womb? An assumption William Ockham wouldn't make.

I know a Thai man who is a dollar millionaire. He wears old clothes; never drives a car- uses the bus or walks and lives a very frugal life. He has his own business and banks mostly everything which will be left to his sons who are not frugal and will spend it quickly. You cannot judge by the way a person looks. On the other hand, I have seen very well dressed people, driving expensive cars up to their hock in debt and have no real money.

The authorities are looking for relatives to give the money to as inheritance! I biet that will be the shortest F#####g search in history.

I am sure that if the authorities wait a few hours, millions of his relatives will turn up.

With no real money, are you trying to say that they're using Monopoly money? facepalm.gif

She also had spent some good money for a gender change, methinks. Great reporting. Wurlitzer prize 2016. Lol...

Pun has a brother who passed away in 2014, and had lost contact with family for years. Authorities managed to contact 64-year-old Pen Tuntamcheua who is his sister-in-law.

The photos clearly show a man.

Welcome, another very arrogant and ignorant new member of this forum. It's great to look down at others who've got less money. Congrats.

I thought I made my displeasure of the quoted post quite clear.

A sad tale

The old lady had probably lost mental capacity and did not realise/understand that she was, in Thai terms, a wealthy woman.

What a pity she was not able, in her old age, to enjoy a more comfortable life.

Even here, I ask is it a man or woman?goof.gif or was, RIP... and y'all make me so darn confused on this thread my head's a spinning facepalm.gif .. ya hear?

Confused ? ----------if so best consult a doctor or re-read the OP.

"After authorities took her body away and tried to contact relatives, they discovered that the woman"

A 70 year old in Thailand with 1,5mil is pretty rich yes if you take into account that many people live from/on 9-10.000thb/month.

1,5 mil = 12,5 years of salary... Not bad!

Seems like I'm in the wrong job. Just joking.

Not uncommon in other countries for the apparently poor to be secretly rich.

There seems a puzzle here as to gender identity too?

Have you noticed some nationalities simply have difficulty with English conversations in getting he and she correct.

Possible??
