BANGKOK, 6 June 2016 (NNT) – The government is holding the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Day 2016 and grant awards for officials with outstanding accomplishments.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security’s (MSDHS) Permanent Secretary Maitri Inthusut said June 5 marks the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Day with activity at Government House on June 6, 2016.

The event will feature exhibitions on operations by the authorities on human trafficking suppression and human protection and an award-granting ceremony will be held for 12 officials with outstanding accomplishments as well as a signing ceremony between 54 government agencies on 12 agreements to enhance the anti-human trafficking missions.

The MSDHS permanent secretary added the government has put top priority on anti-human trafficking operations in the same way as those against narcotics trafficking. Government officials are given the increased authority to close down businesses which may have violated the anti-human trafficking law while government officials allegedly involved in human trafficking charges will be faced with both disciplinary and legal punishments.

I wonder if it will be like the Oscars? "He is unable to attend tonight, but here is a video he recorded earlier from Australia, where he is currently seeking asylum."

Later we will be joined by Andy Hall via a live link from the Banhkok Central Criminal Court.

When I start to see people being arrested, charged and convicted, then given jail sentences. I will start to believe some progress is being made, but until then its all words.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT hold your breath whilst waiting for that day.

The government officials will celebrate the day by visiting their favorite house of pleasure with young girls working there (working there as maids ,of course).located where only they have card keys for the door .

Thailand is always holding something , unfortunately what it generally is, is not allowed on these pages , this rhetoric gets nowhere outside of Thailand and no one is convinced of any improvement in any form of human rights abuse , and as NKK kindly points out , because he is a kindly man , similar to Prayut , the Junta is an abuser of human rights, under the disguise of national reform and reconciliation , Give us a break................................coffee1.gif

Does the junta actually believe that this sort of dog and pony show will be taken seriously by anyone? Are they trying to convince anyone outside of Thailand they are doing something?

Chang_paarp , the best way to answer this , is , you must seem to be doing something , even though you are doing nothing at all

The event might better be labled: Prevention and Suppression of Prosecution of Human Traffickers Day

The Junta can't even bring itself to court martial the only human trafficking kingpin Army 3-Star Lieutenant-General Manas Kongpan nor the apprehended three mid-level army officers - all originally from ISOC. No criminal trials on any as yet.

Really need to see court cases & sentencing completed if they want to be taken seriously. Good they have some up on charges but where is the follow through? Mr Prayut could update these & other corruption cases during his weekly address to the nation which could boost his standing.

So long as there are unaccountable people in Thailand, Mr. Article 44 included, and a limp wrested judiciary, nothing will change. There are people in Thailand who just do whatever they like. There biggest fear are the international news outlets.

Entirely to create the impression ahead of the next TIP report that Thailand is in the vanguard of suppressing human trafficking.

It's shoddy, deceitful and entirely characteristic of this government and Thai culture to try and convince the stupid foreigners that Thailand is not a country in which law and order has broken down, but in fact leads the world.

Complete and utter BS.

Waiting patiently for the first of the 'if you don't like it here you should go home' brigade to pipe up.

The Thai-bashing policemen are never very far away on TVF.

Every NNT article is a lost opportunity.

Here, a critical subject is raised, and there is an opportunity to educate and motivate citizens to join in the fight against human trafficking. The article could have:

- explained the Blue Heart Campaign (it's from UNDOC)

- offered examples of the awards (specific accomplishments)

- quoted some official about the urgency, priority and role of citizens (to abstain, to report, etc.)

Instead, what Thai citizens and interested expats are offered is the most underwhelming, minimalist drivel, which could be summarized much like most NNT "news" items, as: "Government officials did something today; mostly it was flapdoodle."
