Officials don't see public referendum protection centers as viable

BANGKOK, 7 June 2016 (NNT) – The Minister of Interior has said he does not believe an anti-Public Referendum Rigging Center can be set up with the National Security Council (NSC) warning such an organization could be illegal.

Minister of Interior Gen Anupong Paojinda stated that the Public Referendum Act already exists to protect against rigging, cheating and fraudulent voting to do with the public referendum for the draft charter, pointing out that a center to watch over the process would be difficult to keep neutral as its work could benefit particular sides.

Similarly, NSC Secretary-General Gen Taweep Netniyom said such a center could be considered illegal under current laws; making known attempts to set up such centers are being investigated by his office.

He remarked his body is stringently checking on all movements to do with the referendum as the Prime Minister has asserted his wish to have it go off without incident.

Good description in the intro, albeit unintended;

anti-Public Referendum

I am sure the systems in place now are very neutral......

No mention of the Election Commission or the National Anti Corruption Commission.

Another fine piece from NNT.
