Good restaurant (preferably Japanese) near Night Bazaar

Featured Replies

This Saturday I will go to Chiang Mai and I booked a hotel in the night bazaar area.

Now I was hoping for some tips on a good place to eat!

I prefer a good Japanese restaurant (sushi, sashimi, tempura, etc) but other tips are also welcome.

It should be within walking distance of the night bazaar as I am not willing to travel with the local mafia or walk around the whole city with the rain.

Cheers

When I walked by the other day, there was a new restaurant above Starbucks, I think the name is called Aiku. It's Japanese food and surprisingly the fish was extremely fresh. Apparently they fly in the fish several times a week. It sorta reminds me of the Japanese restaurants near Thonglor and the Emporium in BKK--except of course in Chiang Mai. The price was reasonable and the outside patio very pleasant (as long as it isn't raining), I had the unagi, dynamite roll and some drinks.

It was certainly a nice change from the oh so tired Fuji-chain.

I know you asked for Japanese, but if you want a sandwich nothing beats Butter if Better at the south end of the night market street.

Imperial Shabu Shabu Japanese / Steam boat, located on Ground Floor, Imperial Mae Ping Hotel. operating hours 17.30-23.00

Also, Shabushi / Kaiten style conveyer belt, located corner of Chang Klan Rd & Sridonchai Rd.

I thought the food at the Mae Ping was better than Shabushi and as such was reflected by price.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I ended up at Aiku the first evening (right above Starbucks) and liked it so much that we came back the next day with a group of friends.

Excellent food and the cocktails were great (according to others; I don't drink).

So quick photos to give an impression:

It seems the place is brand new as they were still working on the balcony.

(sorry for the huge pictures, I don't know how to make them smaller)
