Tiger Temple denies all the charges

BANGKOK -- The Tiger Temple has denied all the charges filed against it and its abbot, Luangta Chan, by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation.

Luangta Chan’s representative, former Bangkok MP Siri Wangboonkerd and lawyer, Mr Saiyud Pengboonchu, told the media on Thursday that the abbot had nothing to do with the dead tiger cubs and amulets found at the temple during a raid last week by officials from the department, local police and military personnel.

All the 130 plus tigers which were kept at the temple and used by the temple to get donations from visiting tourists have been relocated to a breeding station in Ratchaburi province last week.

Luangta Chan re-emerged today after he disappeared following last week’s raid. He was briefly seen feeding some of the animals still left in the temple but did not meet with the media to tell his side of the story as promised.

Mr Siri told the media that the luangta could not meet with the press himself and assigned him to take his place at the news conference. Defending the abbot, he said the temple had never held any rituals to bless the amulets.

The lawyer, Mr Saiyud, claimed that the amulets were made by followers of the abbot without his knowledge or consent. He further said that the amulets and other items found in a car by the authorities were taken out of the temple by some followers because they didn’t want to make trouble for the temple and the abbot.

Illegal forest encroachment was one of the charges lodged against the temple by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation. The department also suspects that the temple may be involved in illegal wildlife trafficking.

So those men who got arrested with those tiger skins and amulets were lying that the Abbott had given the bags to get them out of the temple. And the police were all lying about the tiger parts and other trinkets with Tiger parts inside them at his home must have been planted there. And how could the Abbott, who runs this place, not know that the tigers were being killed and parts of them used inside amulets supposedly under his nose by followers? And is this abbot going to pull a sickness excuse not to face the police like the other monk in bkk.

Thailand must be the only place in the world where no one ever does anything wrong, no one ever breaks the law, and will lie even in the face of a mountain of indisputable evidence.

I would be curious to ask the monk that if he knew nothing, where did the 6,000,000 baht Mercedes Benz he owned come from?

It is a dangerous place in the world where lying to save yourself becomes more important than religion or morals.

This is nothing but corruption to the core and it grew and grew and grew out of the greed of the Monk to want more and more and more.

Instead of believing in Buddha, he believed he would have so much money and power that he would be untouchable.

This has to be one of the greatest international disgraces Thailand has ever faced, yet they continue to lie even when caught red handed.

20 years in prison is NOT enough for this scammer.

Defending a 100 million baht business,

that denies the truth,

I suppose the tiger skin could have been donated by a sick

tiger who was dying and who must have thought gee

i will help my fellow cats with the money from my skin,

so please cut it off me and sell to the highest bidder.

Evidence is and has been plain for all to see

now we are getting delusional defenders of the trade

and exploitation of the tigers

SHAME on all you ! your eyes are blinded by Money,

What a sweet way to say 'Drugged up by the criminals dressed in orange in order to scam & rip off farangs'.

How those in power can wash their hands of responsibility! You only have to look at the Anglican, Roman Catholic or any other so called religions to see how they build walls of untouchability and unaccountability around their hierarchies.

Essentially they are all rotten to the core and deserve no respect from any legal or moral point of view.

There is zero per cent chance these people give a <deleted> what Buddha thinks or takes note of. Edited by apetley

is this stretching our credulity to the limit?

"Temple lawyer Saiyood Pengboonchoo said Phra Visuthisaradhera has been emotionally stressed since all the dead wildlife, amulets made from endangered animals and more were discovered last week inside the temple which for many years profited from marketing itself as a spiritual sanctuary dedicated to animal conservation.

The temple’s leader, who has run the temple since its inception in 1994, had no knowledge of any of that, the lawyer said. A wildlife official said tiger pelts were found in his room....."

I guess he'll have to do what all wealthy people do in Thailand when faced with serious allegations....join the monkhood

I love how people just deny everything here like children with their hand in the cookie jar.

standard operating procedure for a defense lawyer.

the evidence and money trail and properties purchased in europe should soften the lawyers story.

...the evidence they have in hand is enough to have laid charges long ago....

..yet they continue with 'discussions'....

...denials.....would you expect anything less....

this is NOT religion - it is criminals using religion to cover their activities - preying on the gullibility of the masses - who like so many of the posts, still can't actually identify the criminals they think it is a religion.
