MOSCOW: -- Russia’s Foreign Minister says that France has violated “all commitments of the Vienna Convention (on Diplomatic Relations)” following the detention of Russian football fans in Marseille.

Speaking at the Russian State Duma, Sergey Lavrov added that he had sent a “verbal message” to Jean-Marc Ayrault, the French foreign minister.

In it, Lavrov has urged “not to let the same violations happen again.”

“French authorities were obliged to inform our embassy or the consulate general in Marseille at that very moment when they carried out the detention (of the Russian fans), but this was not done.”

“It is a fact that the French acted in violation against all commitments of the Vienna Convention (on Diplomatic Relations) and I have already sent a verbal message to the foreign minister of France demanding not to let similar violations happen again.”

In southern France, French police stopped a bus carrying 29 Russian fans was stopped near the city of Nice on Tuesday, amid concerns over further football violence.

It follows violent clashes between Russia and England fans in Marseille ahead of their team’s European Championship opener.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

What an embarrassment this guy is. French handling of the situation in this tournament has been incompetent, but they were right this time. Perps were behaving badly again last night. Get your people in order, Lavrov, instead of spitting the dummy and making yourself look silly. The Russians will be kicked out soon, and rightly so. If the World Cup isn't taken off them, expect some teams will boycott it. It is a sham anyway.

Can anyone comprehend people who go to these lengths over something that is supposed to be a game?

I would wager that the fans of this game are also fans of UFC fighting.

The world has gone mad.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Anyone planning to travel to Moscow in 2018 to see their country play in the World Cup needs to have their head examined. Those 150 well-trained hooligans are a drop in the ocean of what awaits them in Moscow.

Years ago I lived in Moscow and Blackburn came to play. Few English fans came and they needed police protection to and from the stadium from the thousands of Russian hooligans who wanted a piece of the famous English hooligans. Of course, back then getting to Russia wasn't all that easy or cheap so those English fans weren't hooligans and they must have sh*t themselves seeing the army of young thugs. I can imagine what the hooligans are planning for 2018.

You would win. Russia is a tough neighborhood to grow up in. Fighting is a way of life for many of them. Many of these young men you see in France do in fact train in MMA.

I would wager that the fans of this game are also fans of UFC fighting.

Yes Russia is correct if a Foreign National is detained then their Embassy should be notified immediately so that Embassy assistance can be provided and family can be notified.

A strange oversight by the French.

For once I'm proud of the French

I was also proud of the French when they declined to join George W.B. in invading Iraq

stating clearly and decisively there were no WMD's in Iraq. coffee1.gif

France is expelling these 20 idiots right now.

Serge Lavrov will be pissed even more.

Especially since one is the supporters leader. The French ambassador has already been called to the Kremlin.

Listen France, and everybody else for that matter, just wait for the World Cup in Russia and we will even the score, Big Time !

They will be banned from all sports including the Olympics because they have been drugging their athletes for decades.

Go cry in your vodka

Article is taking out of context,

that words Lavrov used was referenced NOT to stupid ultras (who acted on their own, for what I hate them),

but to stopped bus with innocent people.

All of them were taken to custody. Including oldmen. Including women. Including drivers (?!). Reason France's gendarmerie has named was "terrorism check".

Think about it. People lost their flight tickets, which they bought in advance, while they're stuck on the entirely another country. People, who are physically couldn't be those ultras.

And most of all: at the time of this incident, France didn't messaged Russian channels anything. That's exactly what Lavrov pointing at. All this happened without informing Russia.

Before doing any premature conclusions, please dig deeper on the matter.

Don't try to see in this article something like "Lavrov trying to protect bunch of ultras". Nobody like ultras. They are stupid. Those idiotic ultras were <5% of other Russian fans.
