Best hospital / doctor to check stomach tumour

Featured Replies

One of my friend's parents has been diagnosed with a stomach tumour. The doctor said it's benign but my friend wants to pay to get a second opinion as she's had bad experiences with Thai doctors misdiagnosing family members in the past, obviously if the tumour is in fact malignant or has the chance to become so then it would be better to know sooner rather than later.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a great hospital where they've had personal experience, a recommendation for a doctor would be better still. I think it would put my friend's mind at rest to be able to organise a biopsy.

Cost isn't really an issue, just someone who will do the job right.

Thanks in advance.

Has a biopsy not already been done?? Hard to believe that she would have been told it was benign without a biopsy.

I recommend Prof. Varocha Mahachai at Bangkok Hospital http://www.bangkokhospital.com/index.php/en/doctor/gi/gi-01

If the lesion has already been removed and biopsied, will need to get hold of the actual specimen slides for a second opinion.

Dr. Surasak Head of the Digestive and Liver Institute at Samijetive Sukhumvit.

One point, before referring her to any of the above -- if she is Thai, make sure it is actually her literal stomach that the "tumor" is in (as that sounds very odd). Thais will often use the term "stomach" to refer to anywhere on the abdomen, including the uterus (a much more common site for benign tumor), which would obviously require a different sort of specialist.

I also recommend Prof. Dr. Varocha Mahachi at Bangkok Hospital

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's definitely stomach and not ovaries/womb, my friend was educated overseas so there's nothing lost in translation

Better go back to your home country. Hospitals in Thailand are terrible, after all this is the Third World.

I don't know if you read the original post - it's the parent of a friend, this is their home country. While cost wouldn't be an issue in Thailand I don't know if travelling overseas would be an option.
