BANGKOK: -- Bangkok police have arrested a gang of young men for the murder of a soldier in the northern part of the city on Tuesday.

Four of the men were taken on a reenactment of their crime yesterday that included a ceremony to beg for forgiveness as a man played the part of the dead soldier, reported Daily News.

Relatives of the dead man had to be restrained by police as the enactment played out for the cameras and news crews.

Sorayuth Chayinthu, 21, was chased down by a pack of eight knife wielding young men in the area of Suwinthawong Soi 14. He was stabbed multiple times then finished off by the gang as he lay on the ground.

Four of the assailants were taken on the reenactment. Another two were too young and are detained in a juvenile facility. The four were Phuwarin Jinda,20, (a bike driver), Art, 18, (who used a knife) Saharat Imkhong, 19, (driver and knife user) and Jakkrit Ngernthet (a pillion passenger).

The assailants were dressed in the uniform of students at a school for apprentices during the time of the attack.

Minburi police said that the gang had had an argument with the deceased man two days before the incident in which the soldier had used a gun to chase them off. On Tuesday the gang were driving around on bikes and saw Sorayuth with his sister on a motorcycle. They chased him. He fell off his bike near the scene of the murder and ran but they caught up with him outside a car dealership. He was stabbed but managed to run away then was stabbed twice in the back. As he lay on the ground other members of the gang finished him off until he was dead.

Police announced later Thursday that another man is in custody and another youth is sought.

At the reenactment a group of relatives of the soldier went to the scene and tried to see the faces of the assailants. There was some minor skirmishes as they had to be kept back.

Four of the men held joss-sticks and lotus buds as they prayed for forgiveness to a man playing the part of the corpse of the dead soldier.

A new idea for the soap opera script writers.

Why do they keep doing these stupid reenactments? Of what use are they?

Third world, and always will be!

Beg forgiveness from a proxy corpse? Give us a break: these slime bags would still be out on the streets doing the same violent things tonight or tomorrow, had they not been caught. The ultimate cowards and now invoking religion to absolve their guilt. 30 years minimum.

Pray for forgiveness, to late now scum bang them up in jail for life.

Third world, and always will be!

I believe there are many third worlders who would abject to that association.

A totally pathetic charade. bah.gif

Turn them over to the soldiers family see if them begging for forgiveness works with them.

I see some funny stuff on these news forums. I respect Thai culture and way of doing things so I dismiss much of it as just being different, but,

THIS IS <deleted> STOOOOOPID !!!

Fake praying for fake forgiveness from a fake corpse with fake remorse. Fake.

Crime reenactments, much like that charade at the Wat Phra Dhammakaya yesterday, showed me that all of this is purely for towering narcissists to get get their moment of glory.

The reenactments serve no point other than to be a photo shoot and a day of not working for many people. It's basically children playing at being grown ups.

That whole temple affair yesterday was just painfully embarrassing. Grown men dressed like the FBI, police officers with more medals than a North Korean army general. Men in orange pretending to be righteous to steal people's money and a s*** show of reporters asking no difficult questions. Very, very childish and pathetic.

The only time the bike rider has ever worn a helmet.

I could tell who was the DSI he had it on his cap , just like FBI

Reenactments are part of the judicial process everywhere in the world, first world included, they can help checking the physical possibility of different parties' versions of events. In that case, since they are several attackers, it seems obvious to do one to try & determine the respective role and responsibilities of each assaillant.

Yeah, right, that's what the BIB are doing...

Were they wearing motorcycle helmets when they killed the soldier?

They should be labelled as mentality disadvantaged and imprisoned for life. The social stigma of being labelled a div might have an impact.... worth try.

Do you really believe that the murder happened the way it was depicted? I mean right after they killed him, they got down on their knees and prayed? Because that's what I see reenacted here.

its so stupid it would make you laugh. R i p to the victim.

O Jees were so sorry, ok you can get up now.

can i hear them giggling behind their helmets

it will never happen in a month of Sundays......but just for once, show the faces of these cowards. It is insane that you can admit to murder and be allowed to hide your face. you lost that right, when you do the deed.

Execute the whole gang in the same manner !!

There is way too much of this and the drunk drivers who kill, all should be executed, Thailand does not need them.

If you take a life, other than self defense or defense of another you should expect the same. Being drunk or on drugs is no excuse !!

When will all this violence & killing end? We're now seeing every week here these gangs of youths taking innocent lives or causing GBH to

others that 'upset' one, or some of them, or maybe looked at them a bit 'funny'.

How long do we wait till it comes out that one of the killers is related to a policeman so they walk out of court with even bigger smirks than

they're wearing under those helmets in the photoshoot...?

Or how long before the families of these killers make a plea for forgiveness & we all see them with freshly shaved heads & wearing the

'I'm invincible now' orange-robe..? Just another lawless day in the Land of Smirks.

next charade will be "his ghost visited us and we apologized and he forgave us"

What on earth is wrong with these youths, they will have a lot of time to adjust their attitudes

...beyond pathetic....

Bizarre and ridiculous reenactment. They could pray to a stone for that matter with this same result.

Must be a fairly violent prayer to need helmets.

Two days after the original altercation you would of thought they would of calmed down.

Throw the book at them

Were they wearing motorcycle helmets when they killed the soldier?

Hopefully covering a range of bruises and broken noses. And I'm sure they will get plenty more kickings before seeing the inside of a prison.
