DPM Prawit confirms he will not interfere with Dhammachayo case

BANGKOK: Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan assured today (Friday) that he would not interfere with authorities in their handling of the Dhammachayo case but he stressed that the case must be dealt with in accordance with the letters of the law.

He said that his interference would complicate the case and that he had trust in the Justice Ministry that it would be able to handle the case without the help of security officials.

As about the Dhammakaya’s followers’ insistence that they would not allowed their abbot, Phra Dhammachayo, to be arrested or to turn himself in to the Department of Special Investigation until democracy is fully restored, the deputy prime minister said that their rationale is irrelevant because the case is not a political issue.

General Prawit also reiterated his earlier standpoint that the anti-cheating centres to be set up by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship would not be permitted because it would lead to more conflicts in the country.

Asked about the UDD’s plan to open a webpage to campaign against the draft constitution, he said that the Election Commission is directly responsible for the problem and should deal with it accordingly.

Letter of the law means nothing if you do not enforce the law ,

when it is ignored,

So many people who have given money to this abbott

now find themselves with the choice of, did i get played and conned,

"NO " must be their response

otherwise so many will lose face.

Get over it, the case is not complicated.

Does this mean he, and others are interfering, but won't admit it ?

Leadership and direction isn't interfering though and that's not happening either.

In view of the fact that he is not a part of the legal team dealing with this, he bloody well shouldn't be interfering, and there is absolutely no need for him to make such a comment. It's safe to assume that this denial means that he is interfering in a big way.

Strange chain of command in operation it seems, at times the PM micro-manages some issues and is strangely missing for others.

This current case involves a senior monk in one of the nation's major institutions and no one wants to be openly involved.

Hard to imagine a simple ' we trust you to handle it ' order has been issued from on high to the relevant authorities.

I'm sure there's lots of cooks involved in this broth while covering their own backsides at the same time due to the potential fallout and consequences from this.

True, but I think Dumpy isn't going to interfere, though he does love to interfere to show people his 'authority' (point of a gun authority that is, not the real kind).

He won't interfere because he wants Paiboon to take the fall for it without having Dumpy's fingerprints on it.

Be careful Mr Paiboon, you sshould not have said there was corruption at Rajabhakti Park. Sudomdej and his corrupt army mates are gonna getcha for it.

It is not DMP Pawtwit portfolio to interfere with this case , unless he is the Attorney General, as well a DMP, and having a Junta it seems like anyone can have a go , reminds me of the previous PTP Administration , everyone talking outside of their portfolios , a recent good example is unelected Prayut making a government to government agreement ( The Prayut transparency ) on a H/S railway, in the first month of taking over at high noon, up till them the only train he ever saw was from a tank , now this pet project could, if it goes ahead, prove very costly and unprofitable for Thailand...........................................coffee1.gif .

Fully agree, and I don't wasn't to appear negative, but these are Thais. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Their whole culture is chaotic and random. When they say foreigners can't understand Thainess, they have it almost right, many can't. Not because it is subtly and sublime (as the Thais fondly assume - usually without thinking), but because it has little structure and even less sense.

Prawit’s assurance that he would not interfere is quite laughable (given that he has already interfered) as it is reported that he has also …stressed that the case must be dealt with in accordance with the letters of the law…

This suggests that the literal interpretation of the words of the appropriate law are to be obeyed. However, doing so may actually conflict with how the original authors of that law intended it to be applied (the spirit of the law) when they framed it – unless, of course, Section 44 is to be used at some point.

IMHO a lot of well connected people just want this case to be swept under the carpet, so their names are not implicated or another can of worms will be opened...coffee1.gif

Does anyone find it unusual to live in a country where politicians have to declate that they are not interfering with the course of justice?.... or is it just me ?

We don't care these monks have no qualifications and generally just rant. The old one is a brain washing con artist. The police have shown there useless approach slow and unprofessional

It would appear the brown envelopes are being delivered.

Stand by for an announcement the whole thing is just a misunderstanding and no further action need be taken.

The military are afraid of the monk's backers and they are afraid of upsetting the police that's why the police are still free to do as they please.
