PATTAYA: At 2.30am on the morning of June 26 the police were informed, by Banglamung Hospital staff, that they were treating two people for gunshot wounds. One of the victims is a ten-year old boy.

The police rushed to investigate and found a large group of boys crowding the emergency room who were worried about their friends. One of them, who is too young to be named, told officers, that their friend, who is also too young to be named, had been shot in the leg and lost a large amount of blood.

Another one, a fourteen-year old, had been hit by shrapnel, or by a ricochet, and was also injured in the legs.

The boys told officers they had been cycling home and passing through the Kao Saotongthong Temple area of Nongprue when they heard several gunshots. They stopped to listen to what was happening when suddenly more gunshots followed, some of them hitting the boys and leaving two of them bleeding badly. Locals rushed them to the hospital.

If the shooter appears they will be taken to the police station and charged. Or shot.

This must be what is meant by rough justice.

Reminds me of this song:

'All the other kids with the pumped up kicks

You better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet'

Why are 10 year olds out at 2.30 in the morning??

Probably happened earlier.

Why did not the locals who rushed the boys to hospital call the police???

Too scared of the local hoodlums???

Two boys mistaken as illegal street racers shot by an unknown gunman

PATTAYA: -- Two boys sustained gunshot wounds believed fired from a gunman with an intention to scare away illegal racing motorcyclists in Banglamung district of Chon Buri early Sunday morning.

One ten-year old boy was shot in the left leg and the other, a 14-year old, suffered bruise in the buttock.

The incident took place at about 2 am on Pattanakarn road in Tambon Nong Prue, Banglamung district.

The 14-year old victim whose identity was not disclosed told the police that while he was riding his bike with a group of friends past a block of shophouses near Wat Khao Saothong Thong, he heard several gunshots and yelled to his friends whether any of them realized where the shots came from. Then more shots followed and one among them shouted he was shot.

The boy added that they immediately rushed the injured to the district hospital.

A police team was later rushed to the new shophouse block to investigate but they found nothing suspicious.

However, they were told by their superior to watch out for someone who might act suspiciously and could be the gunman.

If the police did their job 10 and 14 year olds wouldn't be riding around at 2am ,and there wouldn't be street racing but this is Thailand

If the parents did their job 10 and 14 year old kids would't be riding around at 2am. But as you said "this is Thailand".

While poor parenting is a global problem it does seem to be quite common here.

How is it known the boys were shot because they were suspected of being street racers? They do not know who the gunman was, so it could be some other reason for his/her action.

what about the parents? did they not know that their urchines were out and about that late? it is not any Policemans job to train young punks! if the parents don't care, than they just become another death on the road! there was a time that Thai parents did really care about their children but that time is long gone!

The police, already looking for something suspicious, were sagely advised to also look for someone acting suspicious. Ingenious.

It seems an overall attitude-problem with Thai parents that they don't give a damn what their kids are doing.

EVERY day I see kids in the age of 10-15 year insanely speeding their motorbikes without helmet. Not just a lethal weapon to themselves but (even worse) to others as well!

"What if they cause an accident?" - Parents: "Oh, that's life"...

So if the headlines have it correctly ,then is it now legal to shoot street racers in Pattaya? Is this only for Pattaya or can street racers be shot in other Thai cities? Are daylight hours included? Are there certin "Zones" that are exclusively exempt? Many questions here to be answered. Hummmm

I certainly am jealous that 10 year old boys can run ride around on their scooters at 2:30 am.

When I lived in Chiang Mai, last call was 11:30, soldiers and police closing everything.

Seems like they are clearing the adults off the street, because 10 year old kids run everything, after midnight.

My thoughts exactly, my guess is that the shooter is already known to them and already threatened to do it previously, but its just a guess.

I know this is a first world question to a Thailand situation......

10 & 14 year olds riding motorcycles?

Riding with helmets?

Out at 2.30am?

Parental supervision?

My brain hurts so I won't ask more questions.

And if parents were responsible the police would not have to worry on the first count.

Your opinion means nothing, Thailand will never change , how kids are growing up , not same as western world so no point in even comparing.

these shootings are happening more regularly, give it couple more years and see the carnage then

the news from 2007-2013 there was way more robberies shootings and murders daily, or is it something with reports to do with it now this year?
