THAILAND -- Initial land inspection of a monastery associated with Wat Dhammakaya at Khao Yai has shown that the monastery has partially encroached on a self-help cooperatives.

Mr Chamnan Klinchan, an official of Nakhon Ratchasima land reform office, said on Sunday that the World Peace Valley monastery which is a branch of Wat Dhammakaya has claimed ownership over 900 rai of land at Khao Yai, Pak Chong district.

But land measurement with special equipment has shown that the monastery’s construction site appears to have encroached on the Sor Por Kor land of Lamtakoong self-help cooperatives. Over 100,000 rai of the Sor Por Kor land has been allocated to landless villagers relocated as a result of the construction of the Lamtakong dam.

Mr Chamnan said that if it could be clearly verified that any part of the monastery’s land duplicates with the sor por kor land, the land will be reclaimed by the land reform office.’

He disclosed that the monastery had denied entry to its property by land reform officials, claiming that they should wait until the arrival of officials from the Department of Special Investigation.

He pointed out that the Green Peace Valley is similar to a few other cases such as Bonanza Khao Yai, Moon Dance housing estate which were alleged to have partially encroached on Sor Por Kor land.

Hehee they want to wait for the DSI to handle this because the DSI just sits in their buttstock allowing that monk to make a mockery of them. Clearly if they encroached on the land that it is not the DSI duty to reclaim that land.

How ironic, since the Abbott applied a lot of " self help" in the past 20 years

The monks are on a roll, every governmeent official seems to fear doing their duty in this matter and the monks make up rules as they go along their merry way.

The real sad part is the DSI does not seem to have personel versed in law or the duties of those in the organization. Probably the best description of the entire affair comes from a old movie. A NCO commented to a general, when asked for his assisment replied, '' the entire operation is a cluster f..k ''

If you do not want to lead, follow the leader, if neither is what you want, stay the hell out of the way of others, so something can get done.

Someone obviously has ordered the local land reform office to draw up some "new" maps to 'prove' that the temple has supposedly encrouched on someone else's land.

Just the government's/police way of putting pressure on the elusive abbot.

To understand the forces that empower this temple, you need to go back to its inception. You can find out more on the history on the English wiki page about this.

I've quickly learned to watch what you post for masks and diversions.

You wrote "You can find out more on the history on the English wiki page about this." I read it and what I believe your referring to was some 39 years ago.

Do you have any details of recent stuff in regard to '...the history .... of what empowers...' this place?

Please share.

First the money from the Klong Chang credit union, then this case about a cooperative. Looks like this temple/abbot are quite happy to take the money of the 'little' people.

A bit strange considering they have so many very wealthy members/supporters.

"Self help" is different from "helping one's self" to Sor Por Kor land.

So you are suggesting he wouldn't do a thing like that???? Sorry, but I would believe that he or his organization would do such things. They took the credit Union money, illegally, happily enough and that is what this is all about.

Well, that's obvious, the vast number of people involved, fanaticism, connections to powerful people around the nation, wealth, time established, legitimacy of current government, etc. Referring to the past connection, it involved who donated the Klong Luang land and who gave it their blessing. Seems important to me.
