Scotland and France have been allies for centuries.

Both Catholic.

England is Protestant.

Scotland is mostly Catholic? Really? I think your information is a few centuries behind the times.

This only changed when Scotland stopped being an independent country in 1705.

It wasn't the religion of the populace that counted, it was the religion of the ruler.......after all, they were the ones that set foreign policy.

I quote from "The Reformation, A History" by Diarmaid MacCulloch.

"This Scottish Reformation began in a national revolution in 1559, and it was therefore not the Crown but Protestant churchmen and their lay supporters who took the lead in shaping the future".

James II / James VII would also have to disagree with your statement. As you are now aware Scotland ceased to be an RC nation long before 1705.

I think what you are referring to is the Holy Roman Empire where it was agreed (post Luther) that each prince or elector would decide the religion in his own territory.

There is a fascinating book called How Scotland Invented the Modern World by Arthur Herman, which relates how the reformation broke the link between church and education, setting up the conditions which led to the dawn of Scottish inventiveness.

Stupid political grandstanding.

1. Many Euro countries also have regions that would like to break away, EU will never accept Scotland and open those floodgates.

2. Scotland voted to remain in the UK, the UK has decided to leave the EU (well the voters but not necessarily the politicians), as such Scotland legally must also leave.

3. Scotland receives a net subsidy of 11 billion from UK, who will replace that will low oil prices and dwindling supplies?

They had their chance and turned chicken, just another politician that doesn't like to accept the vote when it doesn't go her way.
