BANGKOK: -- The Appeals Court has upheld the life imprisonment imposed on two men charged with the premeditated murder of whistle-blowing businessman Aekkayuth Anchanbut.

However, the Appeals Court ruled that the two men, Santiparb “Ball” Pengduang and Sutthipong “Berm” Pimpisarn, were guilty of murder, not premeditated murder as charged by the prosecution.

The court said it believed Aekkayuth, founder of the controversial Thai Insider website and a real estate tycoon, was abducted and killed by Santiparb and Sutthipong although the prosecution did not have any eyewitnesses but circumstantial evidences were substantial enough to prove the guilt of the two men.

The third defendant, Chavalit Woonchum, was given 13 months jailterm. The fourth defendant, Thivakorn Kuathong, was ordered jailed for eight months for concealing the victim’s body while the fifth and sixth defendants who are parents of Santiparb were found guilty of receiving stolen valuables and sentenced to one year and four months.

Is this case the first time they were sentenced to Life?

Would be surprised to read that they were previously convicted of murders and sentenced to life in 1995, 2003, and again in 2006.

Look it up. This is the guy who was the only witness in the Four Seasons Hotel affair involving a certain recent ex-PM. He had also been a critic of her big brother and had a website blocked at one time in 2005. He was murdered when PTP were in power and super sleuth Chalerm announced the crime had been solved even before a body was found.

I expect it's case closed now.

And probably knew them personally for one reason or another. No. I am not suggesting he arranged it or was involved. But it is more than possible that their paths may have at least crossed at some point.

Strange that the appellate judges thought it was not premeditated. What was their purpose in abducting him and driving him hundreds of km then? Also strange they left the life sentence in place in that case. I think something may be wrong with the article. The accomplices got extremely light sentences for helping bump someone off, dispose of the body and steal the victims valuables.

No surprise that the 'master minds' have been left alone.
