Hi all, I haven't used the nam phu rom border crossing near Kanchanaburi for about 2 years and wondered if it is still open? If so could someone tell me if the price has changed, think it was 900 baht last time, also is there now a bus back from the border? You used to be able to get the bus there but not back.

Many thanks.

  • It's still open.

Costs 910 baht.

Yes, you can get a bus from the border back to Kanchanaburi town bus station.

Unless you have a valid visa for re-entry you will not be allowed to do the crossing. You cannot do one for a new visa exempt entry.

I have a 1 year multiple entry O visa, should be okay right? It's only 3 months old.

No problem since you have a valid visa.

Regarding the bus back, is it the same local blue bus or is there a regular service with times now? I had to hitchhike back last time.

Sorry I don't know. I was at the border a few months ago and was told by a guy I met there that the first bus leaves the bus station in Kanchanaburi at 10:30 and every hour thereafter. He caught the 10:30 bus and was getting a return about 14:00ish.

Okay, appreciate your honesty, did you go at the weekend?

Yes, a Sunday. The border is open the same times everyday, but I don't know if the bus service differs during the weekend. If you get the 10:30 bus you shouldn't have a problem getting a bus back.

Was it busy at the weekend? Have used this crossing three times before and always during the week but there was only one or two people there.

I've been once on a Sunday and once on a Monday and it's wasn't busy on either day.
