Simon Robinson: British Man Still Missing After Taking Flight from Bangkok
The only flaw would be airport cameras watching his every movement and the whole plan proceed. Maybe he forgot that. -

Clear from day 1
Russia's problem is that it tries to punch above its weight. It still sees itself as a big power but its GDP is not even at the level of Italy' GDP. It's an economic drwarf. The way it goes, Mexico will soon have a higher GDP than Russia. -

At your age: Do you still take life seriously?
I am not attacking Dylan, although I might have been disparaging the Nobel Committee, and it's prize, or rather the changing criteria for the prize, or the fact that the prize in literature may have become less meaningful. No way Dylan can compare to serious poets, or to authors like Phillip Roth, who was passed over for the prize. -

I have a serious question for you..
I don't know about a whole party, but if you want to see what happens when, all of a sudden out of thin air, they replace a candidate that got 14 million primary votes with a candidate that got none, look no further than the USA in 2024. The MSM seems to love it.- 1

5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
I've heard that before - like when I and my co-workers (in my first career) worked "those jobs" in the West, right up until the day we were replaced by those who would work for less than half our wage. It's the same in Thailand now, with "those jobs" - even more so with the manufacturing / export slow-down. And given the cost of labor in a square-meter of building or in a manufactured good, is trivial, it is only for profit-taking at the top - not because it would significantly affect the consumer's price. The DTV specifically allows only foreign-work - not work in Thailand. There is more you wrote I would address, such as whether "married to a Thai" should have exceptions, vs other imported labor - but we are getting too far afield from the DTV, which I think is a great idea, including because it only allows remote work - so opens a pipe to foreign money flows into Thailand. Hopefully, this visa, and less scrutiny of Visa Exempt entries (remains to be seen) can help provide opportunities for those denied the other careers, where they were replaced. -

Cenfest immigration report
Yes, I still do it myself (extension based on retirement). Given most (almost all?) of us are retired and it's only once a year, it's really not that big a deal; besides, typically I have an appointment. You mention that you were hassled for more info from your bank. For at least the last 2 years (maybe 3?), they've required (as you mentioned) the "usual" bank letter....but also have required info/statement showing you've maintained the proper amount in the bank for the prior 12 months. I use SCB for that and get both the usual letter and year-info within about 15 minutes the day before my appointment. For those using Bangkok Bank, I understand you have to order statements (or something) about 5-7 days beforehand and that would add a bit to the hassle. I also take with me a load of other documents just in case they ask for same. About 4-5 years ago, the same lady IO who did my extension the year before surprisingly demanded a copy of every page of my passport including stamps from other countries......and she seemed a bit annoyed when I reached into my folder and handed full copy to her (I think she wanted a break or something and expected me to go away). -

Is a Rabies vax necessary?
Many years ago there was an outbreak in Thailand, reported here on thaivisa. (long before covid) Because of bad vaccines , pets and people got infected. The weird thing about rabies is , there seems not to be a blood test . It's always after the animal dies , they take samples from the brain to know if it was rabies. -

Government to Crack Down on Low-Quality Chinese Imports
A follow up like in EU? About 2 weeks ago , same kind of story. It seems those online shops are exempt from import duty, dont know about Thailand. They will take it away and so the products gets way higher in prices. Also said for protection of local sellers. Yha , right, they dont give a damn about local sellers, it is just money in the box for government. And of course, making it more expensive, the stream goes down, but in meantime money in government box and thats it. -

Paris Olympics: Officials play down Covid fears after water polo players test positive
Where did I say I don't care. You are making things up. Yes the serious threat that covid was ended years ago. Cancer is a serious threat as is heart disease. Where are your facts and charts of daily deaths. There are concerns with many things in life. to most people covid isn't one of them anymore. As evident by the lack of interest.
