Walking through the mall yesterday I noticed the small jewellers and mobile shops have multiple card machines with a different bank logos affixed. There was one with 6! machines.

What's going on here? I thought a merchant terminal would process all MC/visa credit/debit, if there's a minor % saving for the banks own cards wouldn't that be outweighed by the account fee overheads and the nightmare of meeting the documentation requirements for each bank?

Also curiously what are typical/optimal rates for a registered business for domestic CNP transactions where VBV or Securecode is used and delivery is signed for?

dont know why but they have several in the mbk phone sellers table on the 4th floor too .........

they have asked me to pay extra 3% before or just use cash ,so i just used cash ....smile.png

why complicate their delicate little lives unnecessarily ............

Currently (i.e. before National e-payment phase 2) each bank is free to set their own merchant discount rates (MDR - the percentage of the sales volume the machine owning bank takes) and the most of the banks apply lower rate when the card is also issued from the same bank.

Example: KBANK card on a KBANK machine the merchant pays 1.5%

But

KBANK card on SCB machine the merchant pays 3.0%

So it is incentivized for merchants to have a machine from each and every bank and use that machine when they get a card from said bank.

It's worth it to mention that those installment payment plans (0% for 10 months) transactions must be done on the same machine as the card which is another reason merchants who offer a lot of these programs have a collection of machines.
