BANGKOK: - Over 80 percent of the respondents of Bangkok Poll said they intend to vote in the national referendum on August 7.

Bangkok Poll of Bangkok University’s research centre conducted an opinion poll on July 9 from 1,876 samples from all regions of the country.

Although the poll shows 83.7 percent of the respondents declare their intention to vote in the referendum, only 41.6 percent of them say they approve the draft constitution – down by 2 percent from the previous opinion poll.

7.2 percent of the respondents disagree with the draft charter – up by 0.6 percent from the last poll with 11.6 percent saying they will abstain and 39.6 percent say they are still undecided on how to vote.

42.1 percent of the respondents admit that they learned about the content of the draft charter from media news websites and news provided by media outlets while 11.7 percent say they received information from teachers under the government’s educational campaign; 11.1 percent say they learned from documents distributed by local officials.

52.1 percent believe that the referendum will be helpful in enabling the country to move forward but 20.7 percent say the referendum will be of little help while 27.2 percent say they are not sure.

This article says 80% intend to vote, and the post below it says 60% undecided?? can you do math that's 140% of the people, does this mean that some of the people that are dead are going to vote. Sounds like American politics :-))

The way that many people have learned the contents of the draft charter would appear quite suspect to me. We all know how the media screws things up, and gleaning this information from teachers is also a bit sus, and documents distributed by local officials, what documents.

I say the government should make sure accurate copies of the proposal are widely distributed.

What a load of Bull this so-called referendum is, So much for X amounts of people and their family's and friends going on junket tours to (apparently) learn how other countries hold a referendum that cost how much to the tax payer???????

Having had other Thais tell me this is what they think about this draft.

And this is what they come up with.

A draft that is a criminal offence to comment publicly on.

A draft that has taken out many checks and balances.

A draft that has sweeping military powers.

A draft that falls far short of the needs of the people of the country.

A draft that both major political sides have rejected.

A draft that has not been explained to the people.

A draft that has implications that almost none of the people know the ramifications for the future.

A draft that is not open to international observers at the place of voting.

A draft that has been tweaked because the last one X months ago failed and the junta refused to accept the umpire's (the peoples) choice.

A draft that is as useful as these poll's and the other poll's so-called PM has 99.3% approval from the country.

To bad it's not a draft just blowing in the wind ( a fart) followed by it's true nature a dump...

80% of Bangkokians but 60% nationally, perhaps?

You're just randomly adding together two numbers that are measuring two different things.

The 80% refers to the number who plan to vote and the 39.6% is the number who have not decided which way they will vote. Not sure what the 60% is referring to.

It states:

39.6 percent say they are still undecided on how to vote.

Someone can state that s/he is going to vote but is still undecided which way s/he will vote.

BS poll. No way that many citizens even KNOW about the Referendum!

If only they could KNOW as much as those who voted in the referendum on Brexit (and the pre-vote polls could be as accurate). Now the "well informed" Bregret voters want a do over.

Of the 17.4 million people who voted Leave, 1.1 million now say they wish they had not, if the results of a Survation poll are to be believed.
The poll found that people who used Brexit as a protest vote - or thought their vote "wouldn't matter" - are now having second thoughts.

Any Thai I have talked with - be it family, friends or co-workers have no clue on the referendum or the place they need to go for the vote.
Some even don't know the date.

They haven't seen any information, nobody has read the constitution or even know where to find it.

In terms of geographical voting results I expect it will follow closely to the 2007 draft constitution referendum. Suthep will be key to deliver the South once again a favorite of the junta. And a politically divided country will continue.

Things bit different this time. In the 2007 referendum the Dem was unaminous in support and the South came out in large numbers. This time the Dem is split and Ahbisit didn't fully support the charter albeit cagey in his comment. If 80% really intend to vote, it's worrying for the Yes campaigners.

This is a misleading headline - the sample was taken from across the country, in any event, there is another news article posted today (a NIDA poll), which says that 60% of Thais are still undecided whether to vote at all.

They can't both be right, this is just another piece of the legendary Thai incompetence, and has no status. The pollsters might just as well have surveyed the trees in my back garden, to see what they thought.

Most of that Thais I have spoken to have no clue of what it is all about and just smile and shake their head, when asked.

I would guess most of them will not even turn up to vote. Guess I only know people in the 20%.

The Thai-bashing policeman has now become the Brexit authority.

The referendum is over. The leave side won by a clear majority. What people say afterwards is just so much blx. The fair and honest result stands. Stop ...... whinging.
