Anyone have any suggestions where I might find an outdoors / lifestyle shop or shops in the same area Bangkok.

Backpacks, travel wear etc. North face, Columbia....that sort of stuff. I've seen some of that stuff in the malls but all full retail price.

Amarin Plaza (BTS Chidlom) has an area on the 2nd floor for outdoors/hiking enthusiasts.

Thanks mate. You know if the prices are discounted? In Australia you wouldn't dream of buying any of that stuff under 40% off retail.

As Kenny 202 states try Amarin Plaza. They have many shops that sell all kinds of outdoor kit, Scuba equipment, specialist "Army" style clothing, bags and kit.

I buy from ThailandOutdoor shop - website: thailandoutdoorshop.com/

Just search for Outdoorshop in googlemaps and you will find their shop. You can have warm waffles with ice cream and whipping cream at the archery club too smile.png

Nice friendly place

The real thing only in the real shops but mind you: only 2 years warranty where in Oz you would probably get 10 years or lifetime.

Fake stuff in kao san road, mbk, local markets, along the roads..

There is a North Face shop in Siam Discovery. It is just a small shop however.

Like the O/p said there are shops in various malls selling North Face and the likes at top retail prices. I've recently spent another fortune on some "Made in Vietnam" Northface hiker boots, from one of the Central mall North Face outlet, that fall to bits after a year or so. Another pair I had lasted a little longer. YMMV.

I've always had good luck with the made in Vietnam stuff, infact real North face etc is made in Vietnam. Always suspected a lot of it grey market. There are differing grades though. I've only ever bought bags. What I really want are some long pants, shorts. Back home you'd never pay more than 50% retail. Here they want 3000 baht plus for a pair of nylon shorts

I wouldn't count on 1 minutes warranty here on anything. Just doesn't seem to be part of the Thai mindset. You seem to be instantly branded a criminal should you dare to return anything or its obviously all Ur fault

Just don't deal with the Thai (they can't even understand you probably) but complain direct to their headoffice or in your homecountry.

TNF is a good brand but not perfect. Also their warranty is not perfect. I had issues with the velcro on the zippers of my winterjacket in Europe and they wouldn't replace them after 2 years. The pockets didn't close anymore.

Anyway, i sometimes TNF is in the sale. Problem with Thai shops is you don't know if it's in sale or not, the salesperson has to tell it (or not).

I even saw TNF with a made in Mexico label in it, in the real shop.

But also the copycopy is not bad, those jackets with fleece they sell in the export outlets in the malls are pretty good quality. Also they look very real into detail.

Many TNF shops have loads of hikingboots and even snowmodels. Who will buy that in a mall like Westgate? And they even have sizes untill 12 or so. One day that must go in sale i guess since they won't sell it, sure not those western shoesizes for snow.

If brands like that put a collection in sale they do it in a suburb mall, not around Siam. I have been lucky many times in the past but i don't visit malls so often anymore.

The one I recommended is an actual dedicated North Face shop.

Well I can confirm Amarin place very good. Not only a few cracking travel and dive shops but big clearances on quality luggage and travel accessories. Woman at the shop I actually wanted to buy from was so aggressive hovering over me I actually left empty handed. Then she bad mouthed me so no chance I'd go back. Why do so many thai shop owners do this? I'm sure thais like to have a browse without the pressure too. And why not just smile with the hope the customer will come back rather than be rude and ensure they don't?

The little shop at Poetchit centre was ok and nice guy but most of the stuff fake and not much cheaper than real. Was looking at a pack and the guy told me will only be good for 2 or 3 uses

That hasn't been my experience. The Ex Officio drip-dry shirts I bought there get daily wear and have been going strong for years. The guy told me he had a friend who worked at the factory, so I assume they were intended for export and found their way out of the back door, or were rejects with minor faults. They were 1,000 baht each, but the equivalent North Face shirt is around 2,000 baht. I don't know about the packs, as I buy mine in the frequent Sales at Central Chidlom. Name brands at reasonable prices.
