I would like to know which papers do we need in order to get married at the city hall of Laksi? If you got married in another city hall (Bangrak for example), could you please indicate it? The required documents are different from one place to another.

It seems that I need my passport and my certificate of celibacy (with legalized translation done at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs). On her side, my future wife needs her ID card and Baan Tabian.

Any other documents needed? What about the translations? Do I require an official translation for all my documents?

Concerning the witnesses, we should have 2 people. And concerning the translation, it seems that no translator is needed at Laksi

I don't know where you will get someone to give you a certificate of celibacy.....lol... I think you had better look up the meaning of that in a dictionary.!!!

What you need is an affirmation to marry which you get from your Embassy by giving them proof that you are legally available to marry. This then needs to be taken to a translation office (many around the Embassy's in Bangkok) and translated into Thai and then for a very reasonable fee they will take it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and get it stamped and then post to your home address.

The only other document you need is your passport which is to be photo copied, translated and stamped by the MFA at the same time.

I don't know about the various Amphur's (district office) so maybe someone else can advise you on that but when you ask about having translators there I think you mean interpreter's for interpreting the language. (translators do the paperwork).

Haha I do realise that my friend and I think you did very well. But who told you to use the word celibacy?? I assume you have looked up the meaning now.

If not it means not having sex and nothing to do with marriage....lol

But apart from that it was very good, after all, all I would be able to say would be Bonjour and Au Revoir.

In French the fact of being single = célibat

Célibat - celibacy = quite close and that's exactly what we call "false friends". Reasons why I haven't checked in fact. I even didn't think you could think of celibacy for not having sex ...

In fact, what you call celibacy in French = abstinence (the fact of not having sex)

It's like library. In French we say librairie and we think the translation is library, But it's wrong. A librairie is a bookshop while a library is a bibliothèque.
