CDC President confident PM Prayut will try to organize election in 2017

BANGKOK, 28 July 2016 (NNT) – The President of the Constitution Drafting Commission is confident that a general election will eventually take place whatever the result of the August 7 public referendum.

CDC President Meechai Ruchuphan said that he believes PM Prayut will do all he can to make it happen before the end of 2017 even if the proposed new charter does not pass the public referendum on August 7.

According to Mr. Meechai, if the draft Constitution and the referendum question both get an endorsement from the public, there will have to be an amendment to the draft charter in order to make it accord with the referendum question, which asks whether voters agree to senators taking part in the election of the prime minister.

He said that, under such circumstances, the draft charter amendment must also gain the approval of the Constitutional Court before the change is brought into effect.

After this stage, another eight months will be needed for the drafting of organic laws before an election can be organized within the following 150 days.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon said that everyone will have to accept the referendum result, whatever it may be, after August 7.

He also commented that politicians sharing their opinions about the draft charter is not likely to affect the planned referendum.

some of you posters are so cynical! DJJamie will tell you the General "knows" what is good for Thais and has explained many times that this is "Thai democracy" and you just don't understand "Thainess".

Any Thai who doesn't agree is obviously retarded and does not want the 'good of the country' and has been manipulated by "unseen forces"

next!

Goodness me no please, don't start them off on the" principles of democracy". They will crayon all over the forum for days, but never get round to explaining what the principles are, let alone how they square them with a junta government put in place by a military coup which prevented an election!

Exactly! And he bases this belief in the junta on the fact that the previous 12 juntas fixed a lot of problems when they took power!!!blink.png
