Southeast Asian countries to share efforts to promote tourism. Thailand not included

Featured Replies

Tourism officials from four Southeast Asian countries met in Yangon on Saturday to discuss ways of working together to promote tourism in the Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) region.

Topics discussed during the two-day “Four Countries, One Destination” conference included increasing cooperation in the tourism sector, promoting regional travel agents, flight connections, human resource development and drawing more investment to the CLMV region, according to Heng Sochamroeurn, deputy cabinet director of the Tourism Ministry.

Ho Vandy, secretary-general of the Cambodia National Tourism Alliance, said that conference would help promote CLMV as a single destination. However, to reap the economic rewards of a growing tourism industry, he said the focus should be on private sector collaboration.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Seems a smart move.

Now Thailand is the Hub of Stands Alone

There are already many young travellers treating CLV as one destination. They buy a motorbike in Vietnam and then travel around all three countries without any problems taking the bikes across the borders. Then return to Vietnam and sell the bike. Of course they have to get the required visa but that will change soon enough.

Vietnam will be the bigger winner in the end. Clean beaches are what tourists are looking for...

Unfortunately the hospitality industry here in Vietnam has got a lot of catching up to do.

...haven't you noticed.....???

Of course Thailand is not included, their strategy is to advertise their country to their own citizens.
