greying out of read posts and..

The new software does not grey out the headlines once the posts are marked read. Still appear as not read.

Looking at your post (after reading) on the View New Content page, I can see that the bleu dot in front of the title has gone and the text has become a lighter shade of blue. To me that is an indication that I have read it. Using a desktop here.

Yes, but the headlines are still in bold. I am used to them being grayed out as well. 

Not bold on my screen, to me it looks clear what has and has not been read.

I cannot upload a screenshot right now, otherwise i could show you.

What you have been used to is no more and now you have to get used to recognising that the absence of a blue dot to the left of the topic title signifies that you have no unread posts in that topic. I'm sure you will get the hang of it quite fast.
