Cancellation Work Permit and Visa

Hi to everyone,

i just sold my share in company. My Work Permit (1 year period) will expire on 20th of this month as well my Visa NON-B. I am just planning a trip to Singapore in the same day or some days before  (and i will stay there for some days). A friend told me i do not need to do nothing, just go out and if coming back, get a tourist visa because your Work Permit will expiry automatically at the expiry date,  and for the Visa the same  because you can come back with a tourist visa.

Can anyone confirm the same thing?  Or do i need absolutely to go to Labour dep. to cancel my WP? Thanks
