BANGKOK, 6 August 2016 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is convinced that the government is well-prepared for what is to come after the public referendum.

Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, the President of the NLA, said he was not disconcerted by the announcements of political parties rejecting the draft constitution, but admitted that he was worried about people who deliberately misinterpret the contents of the charter.

He then asked all eligible voters to exercise their rights on Sunday which is the referendum day, while expressing a hope that voter turnout is high. When asked about the post-referendum era, the president said he was convinced that the government and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) have a plan in mind should the draft charter fail to pass the referendum.

He said up until now, members of the legislature have been traveling to various places to explain the additional question attached to the referendum ballot to the public.

Perhaps he worries that if Thailand does not move on, it will fall behind Burma and their other neighbors.  Burmese chimed in on the charter also within the last 24 hours.  Not that any on this forum feel the hubris of the Thai government and its elite.

Regardless of the outcome of the vote.

What exciting times with the referendum result awaited and then the result of Tuesday's  '  brain storming  '  !

i don't believe the voting result will change much as the junta will charge on doing whatever they want,  whenever they want although I do suspect if the vote is NO there might be an increase in control.

Of course they have, but they are keeping it a secret. Or maybe they have a plan in mind to ensure the charter succeeds in passing the referendum regardless of how the voting goes. They are relying on the political apathy and docility of the Thai people and so far they have been OK with this. The opposition needs a charismatic and deserving leader to mobilise resistance and force the discussion of alternatives but all they've got is Yingluk and Jatuporn, at least until the next generation of student activists gain some political maturity and reputation.
