Youths wreak havoc, destroy property at Phuket juvenile center

PHUKET: A group of 35 juvenile delinquents, including at least one charged for involvement in the Thalang riot last October, wreaked havoc at the Phuket Juvenile Observation and Protection Center (JOPC) at Saphan Hin yesterday afternoon.

 

Phuket City Police was called in to control the situation by JOPC Director Rawee Kuhapimook.

 

“The group grabbed hold of fire extinguishers and sprayed them into the building’s ground and pond. They also destroyed property on the premises, including in the canteen, behavior therapy room and grounds,” said Ms Rawee.

 

Police subdued the unruly youths and rebuked them. 

 

“Once we had the situation under control, everyone was fed and gathered together on the second floor,” said Col Komol Osiri of Phuket City Police.

Four Thalang rioters transferred to prison after juvenile detention centre riot

PHUKET: Four inmates being held at the Phuket Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection (DJOP) for drug offences and who were later found to have taken part in last year’s Thalang riots have been transferred to Phuket Provincial Prison after causing a riot at the DJOP yesterday afternoon (Aug 5).

 

Officials from the Phuket DJOP at 3pm yesterday called for emergency assistance from Phuket Prison, Provincial Police and others to assist in handling a riot caused by inmates that had broken out inside the facility.

 

Phuket DJOP Director Ms Rawee Kuhamuk said the inmates, mostly teenagers, had destroyed property and items inside the food court and main hall on the first floor and that staff were at the facility were unable to control them due to their numbers.

 

Ms Rawee said, “We tried to stop and reason with them, but they did not listen. They let off fire extinguishers, smashed a glass partition between the food court and activity room, threw food on the floor and destroyed chairs and lockers.”

 

By 3:45pm a team of officials led by Phuket Prison Director Pichit Wanjit and Phuket City Police Chief Kamol Osiri arrived at the Phuket DJOP and were led to the area where the incident had taken place.

So they got rewarded with daily visitations for their behaviour, well done 

looks like they were wrong candidates for the Juvenile observation centre and should have have been detained in  a more secure institution to begin with.

I agree send them to some of Thailand's more classy prisons with a couple more years added to their sentence 

Youth Education camps deep in the jungle, no phones, no TV.

The jungle needs a good cleaning every once in a while like everything else
