MRI in Thailand vs in England

Featured Replies

I've been offered an MRI 2 times now by doctors at bangkok hospital because of my concern and symptoms of nerve discomfort, but the price, which the doctor said was 20,000 baht, of course put me off, as she also said they might not see and find anything from the MRI.

I fly back to the UK on 30 August, the health care is free but waiting times is long, and you have to have your GP refer you to other specialists first and I'm guessing its a very long process, unlike thailand were you can walk in to a hospital and get a MRI that day or the next day.

I paid 4,000 baht for a spine and hip x ray and a talk with a Orthodepics doctor  and everything was normal, but x rays dont show slipped disks and nerve problems.

just wondering what other people would do, pay for the MRI in Thailand or get a free Scan in England

No question, MRI in Thailand, for £500 you can get it done same day and 20k baht is about the going rate for that sort of MRI.

You would have to contact each hospital separately for the rates but all will be more than at the imaging center you refer to.

My only caveat re using that place is not to do so if you require an MRI with contrast, as a small minority of people have serious adverse reactions to the dye and thus you are better to do it in a hospital setting in Thailand, as stand-alone clinics and imaging centers cannot be relied on to have the necessary capacity for effective emergency response.

For an ordinary MRI without contrast, it is fine and I have used them myself.

Also, be sure that you know any specific instructions/requirements for the MRI.
