NARATHIWAT:-- A motorcycle bomb went off before dawn in Narathiwat’s Yee Ngor district today (Sunday) damaging five other motorbikes and a shophouse store. There were no injuries however.

Police and members of a bomb demolition squad who were rushed to the explosion scene found metal remains of what was believed to be a 20-kg gas canister which was used to make the bomb and wreckage of a motorcycle scattered at the scene.

According to witnesses, one man was seen parked the motorcycle with a suspected gas canister covered in a sack wrapped on the pillion’s seat in front of an unnamed store which buys scrap rubber. He then left the scene and about 30 minutes later, it went off.

The two-storey wooden store suffered serious damages from the force of the explosion.

Narathiwat was rocked by ten bomb explosions on Saturday night in what security officials suspected to be perpetrated by militants to disrupt the referendum in the province.
