need some recs for friend staying at JW Marriot...

An old friend is going to be staying there for a week on business (he works in accounting).  He's mid 50s, makes excellent money but is a ordinary guy, who loves sports and drinking.  He's happily married, but traveling alone..I don't think hookers are a high priority but he wouldn't have any objections.  I live in CM, and am kind of out of the loop on BKK, even though I've been there many times.  I told him about Denny's at the Holiday Inn...it's kind of friendly, low key, and not so in your face.  I think NEP is just too raunchy for the guy (and me, too), but he might have a look at Soi Cowboy. I also mentioned that Hooters on Soi 15 might be ok.  So any recs on good places to hang out after work for 2-10 beers or drinks?  He's a first timer to BKK, so his comfort zone will be pretty close to JWM so let's stay within 2-3km of there.  Is Kiwi Bar any good these days on Soi 8...reviews are very mixed.  Where are the best sidewalk set-ups lately?  Thanks in advance.  His favorite beer is a cold, opened one, so I don't think he wants to do craft beers or outrageously taxed imports.

There is a new Hooters branch on Soi 4 across the street from the NEP entrance. Very short walk for your friend, and a way to dip his toe into the lower Suk shark tank.

yeah, I think he might even enjoy the walk over to the other one at Soi 15.....reports are that it has a bit more charm to it.

Well what does he like beyond cheap bars like Denny's?

Music places?

Good food?

Somewhere to talk to people beyong bar girls?

To me you are selling the guy short here by not asking for some more specific recommendations...we can name bars till infinity but better to give specific places he would likely enjoy.

Frankly mid fifties with cash in his pocket Denny's would be no more than a place I would wait for someone for a half hour...its not a destination spot in BKK.

Fair enough.  If your friend ends up walking on the odd side of Suk he can check out Tarntip Massage on 7/1 it is a good, legit and reasonably priced massage shop on a naughty soi:  http://www.tarntipmassage-spa.com/#_=_
