Health Insurance recommendation

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

For the last 3 years I have been using KrugThai AXA. During my first year paying 1900 a month they provided full IPD cover. After 2 years they added 35,000 OPD cover at no extra cost.

However the abysmal service I received from them over the last year or year and a half, really pushed me over the edge. From being stuck for 7-8 hours in a hospital because they CANT find my details, to insurance not excising on the system,  or not even being active for which I have to fax them receipts of my payments. Not too mention that they reimburse me for each admission day 3,000 bht a day and they still haven't paid that since October last year.

I'am looking for insurance with a good IPD cover. I have checked BUPA but anything similar is 2,300 bht or if cheaper includes only 500k cover a year.

Any recommendations?

Re above, make sure it is Cigna Global and their expat policy, but given that you are put off by BUPA costs I doubt you'll be happy. Cigna policies, while among the least expensive of European-issued expat policies, cost more than BUPA though the premium can be brought down to about the dame as BUPA if you accept copays or deductibles (excess).

Moved to Insurance forum.

You won't find a significantly less expensive option to BUPA that is worth having. And, if BUPA, make sure it is there Platinum policy - preferrably Platinum 5 (5 million baht cover) and definitely not less than Platinum 2. Which, unless you are quite young, will surely cost more than 2,300 baht a month.

This is simply the reality of what health insurance costs.

Health insurance policies issued through banks are seldom worth having (and coverage often limited only to accidents or other highly specific things) - best to get direct from a company that specializes in health insurance. And be sure to get a policy that has direct billing arrangements with a lareg selection of Thai hospitals.

anybody uses April-international or Pacific Cross?

They seem to offer reasonable flexible packages too, good coverage at fair rates

Try NZI  its a New Zealand company  but has a Thailand branch over here

I was insured with them a few years back. Never had to make a claim but I was troubled to note that they don't have cashless arrangements with the private hospitals at the time. Imagine being strapped to a gurney after a heart attack or a stroke and having to negotiate with someone in France (they're a French firm) as to whether or not your condition is covered. Then having to pay and reclaim your expenses while you convalesce.

No thanks

That might have changed by now but I switched to MSH International when it was time for renewal. They have "no-cash" arrangements with Samitivej, Bumrungrad and others and have been reasonably priced

AXA PPA is one of the best out there but I doubt you will want to pay the price. As other's have said, First class Health insurance isn't cheap if you want to be fully covered. At 58 yrs old and no health problems, mine runs at around £2800 a year which is around £1200 a year more than I was paying with them in the UK as they are UK based. You do get worldwide cover except the USA, repatriation to the UK and full cover up to £5million for absolutely everything, use the best hospitals in Bangkok etc and no need to pay up front for treatment. At the end of the day, it is peace of mind but at a cost.

Doses any one have any input about ThaiLife as a medical insurance. The reason I ask as was insured with them since 2011 for a few years when I was still travelling back and forth to work in Canada. Have since retired but terminated coverage a year or more ago. Had no complaint but never really need to use the  insurance at all. I light of going through this form I find that what I was paying for was  quite a bit less that suggested minimum. My yearly cost for my plan was 32,000 Baht(Subpanphol 1)  I am 65 good health only thyroid and small BP meds and live outside of Chiang Rai on a limited  Canadian government  pension. In looking this forum I find many different amounts suggested for the minimum basic amount one should have. as I am retired now I am trying to find something with in my limited budget. I would welcome any and all suggestions especially from you Sheryl.
