Canadian man killed in police raid was ISIL supporter and planned imminent attack

TORONTO: -- A man killed during a police raid at his home in the Canadian province of Ontario was an ISIL supporter and was in the final stages of launching an attack with a homemade bomb.

That is according to police, who say they had received credible information – including a so-called “martyrdom video” – from US authorities, indicating that Aaron Driver was planning to strike.

“Based on this information, the attack was supposed to take place within the following 72 hours and was likely to target an urban centre – either during morning or afternoon rush hour,” said Mike Cabana from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Driver died after detonating an explosive device in the backseat of a taxi as police closed in on him.

The RCMP had said on Wednesday that he was fatally shot by police, but at Thursday’s news conference the police could not say if he died as a result of the detonation or as a result of being shot by officers.

Driver was arrested last year for openly supporting ISIL on social media.

He was not charged with a crime, but a court order was imposed – requiring him to stay away from computers and not to have contact with militants.

Before everyone goes all Islamic-postal about this guy, it might be worth reading this:

He was born to a Christian family in Canada.

And he rejected Christianity and converted to Islam so what exactly is your point?

If its to highlight the fact that he had a troubled childhood then why even mention Christianity? There is nothing in the article to say either he or his family were regular church goers.

It doesn't matter if he was born in a family that worships chickens. The fact is he converted to Islam and that says it all.

Aaron Driver was born in Canada.  Did you actually read the article?  Did the name Adam Driver sound like it would belong to someone from the Middle East?

Scott would have been attempting to hose down endless off topic rants about Muslim refugees in response to the post...

No! For sure not. Aaron Driver is not an Arab name. So no need to guess that.

But Driver's father spoke to CBC in March 2015 on the condition that he not be named. So we have to guess who he is. Tom? Bob? Hank? or Jim?

I would love to agree with your assertion.

But born and bred Canadian Citizens and the UK born and bred Citizen I refer to have nothing to do with the ME or Africa and makes a complete nonsense of your post.

The racist card sailed a long time ago
