I don't know, But one thing is for certain. They all need a real good Pointing Towards.

Powerful Reds in Prison whose families have paid hired personal large amounts of money to begin a long series of bombings to begin the downfall and removal of elites.

Really? We love to speculate here on TVF but this is just silly as we have no real information to even guess.

The bomb that was triggered in Phuket was a Malaysian phone and according to the Malaysian press the Thai law enforcement has send it already to Malaysia. 

How about a  '  too early to speculate  '   option   ?

Directly after confiscating 46 billion of Thaksin's ill gotten gains in 2010 things really escalated.

If it had been a bombing in Ireland would you have lumped together separatists with Christian extremists or would you have then recognised the difference between those fighting for politics and those fighting for religion?

This is always the weapon of choice when trying to make a point. The army is just to strong for any kind of physical assault. Hit and run throw a scare into a vital part of the economic pie. Lets hope they do no progress up to the point of attacking  with explosive belts.

More options needed, such as 'No matter who did it, it was Thaksin'.

I have no idea but the military have the most to gain.

When you get bombings and terrorism, it is not hard where to look, though there can be the occasional exception.

The most likely culprits are forces linked to thaksin in the PTP and the UDD.

They suffered a significant defeat days ago which saw the passing of a new charter that will all but end his party's prospects of returning to power. To rub salt in the wounds a record number of people voted for this charter. In fact more people voted YES for this charter than voted for any winning Thai PM in history.

 

In the past, when thaksins forces have felt politically cornered, they have always violently struck back. The move will harm the nation's economy, undermine the government's ability to maintain peace and stability, give the more radical elements of thaksins movement a boost in morale and send a message to his opponents to come back to the table for talks rather than continue on with the systematic dismantling of his political party.

 

Of course this resolute voice that has echoed through Thailand last weekend proclaiming the people are finally sick of death and violence and prefer the peace that the Junta has provided would definitely not sit well with these elements that committed the bombings. Bombs and death is the UDD specialty (oh and who can forget the arson of course) and what we are witnessing here is them in their element. Element being bombing and then denying as they have done for the last decade. 

For years ive been reading (on this site) articles talking about the southern insurgents moving north and particularly into the tourist areas to both draw attention to their cause and force concessions. It amazes me that with the information thus far established we've completely forgot all this and assume its the red shirts. The logistics alone would be formidable. What we know of red-terrorism since the last surge is that its often very small scale, opportunist and lacks genuine planning (dumping a nail bomb behind some bins or lobbing a grenade over a wall). Of course this could be paramilitary which would be an incredibly worrying development. But its rather unlikely. The reds have stayed quiet for the past two years knowing full well that in a free vote they'll either romp home or wait until the army is back in its barracks and use protest as a vehicle for civil disobedience. 

 

What we know of the southern insurgency is that it has lost impact in the media, it is ideologically driven, it has no chance of representation through the ballot box, and it can mobilise in those regions. We also know, thanks to the statement on the type of devices used, that they mirror those used in the insurgency. It boggles the mind then that people think the lesser of two evils is to pin it on the reds. Not only would this likely lead to further state aggression by the military, it may end up in a self-fulfilling prophesy. It seems the Thai state desperately wants to not only disefranchise the north, but also humiliate them in the process by provoking a confrontation. Its so counter productive that i cant get my head around it. Meanwhile the people actually responsible will very likely be planning and coordinating a far more attention grabbing strike no doubt in the heart of the tourist trap. 

The mad monk, the jetsetting monk, the yet to be arrested monk and the mercedes monk all competing to make the the PM the biggest monk kee.

The below is a glimpse into this terrorist minorities activities in 2005 and 2006.

The list of activities is much longer in 2010 and then we have 2014 and 2015 which is quite long as well. All these activities have coincided with major events in the political landscape of Thailand. All of them coinciding with thaksin affiliated parties loosing power or having power taken away from them. All of them denied by the thaksin affiliated parties just as this one is. History has judged the PTP and the UDD and that ids why they are the main suspects.

They made the threat that there would be a civil war if they lost power and this is now conveniently ignored by the same news media that reported it 2 years ago. 

• On March 27, 2006, an unexploded bomb was discovered next to the Democrat Party headquarters (ref I); 
• On March 9, 2006, a small bomb exploded at a guardpost outside the house of Privy Councilor Prem Tinsulanonda (ref J);
• on the same day, a bomb exploded at the Royal Vajiravut College, targeting anti-Thaksin academic Chai-anan Samutthawanit; 
• On February 22, 2006, a small bomb exploded at the Santi Asoke Buddhist Sect, associated with leading Thaksin opponent Chamlong Srimuang; 
• On December 8, 2005, a small bomb exploded at a phone booth outside of Lumpini Park, which had become a site for recent anti-Thaksin rallies; 
• On November 3, 2005, a small bomb exploded on property of the Manager Media Group, owned by leading Thaksin critic Sondhi Limthongkul.

Using your own guide (and ignoring completely that since the military coup that pattern has completely ground to a halt aside one very lackluster bombing in bangkok which seemed to be entirely about disruption rather than loss of life), every action appears to be set on political opponents directly connected to Thaksin. These were targeting tourist areas. This is not in the remit of the red shirts.  

For those calling or hoping for a rise-up against 'elites' and for more violence, bombings, etc, perhaps temper your statements as innocent people including tourists were maimed and a poor lady flower seller (not 'elites') were among those murdered in these and other similar cowardly attacks since 2006 - including children in this one tragically:
