An Australian man and three Cambodians were charged yesterday with alleged drug trafficking and use in Preah Sihanouk province, according to police.   Colonel Sun Sophath, chief of the provincial Anti-Drug Police Unit, said Hugh Robertson, a 45-year-old Australian tourist, Keo Vannak, 16, Nam Chhay Thi, 23, and Ros Savin, 19, were charged by the provincial court with “drug use and possession.”

He added that the men had been arrested after Anti-Drug Police forces raided their rented rooms in Sihanoukville’s Bey commune on Friday. After the crackdown and arrests, police confiscated four small packages of crystal methamphetamine, two from the Australian and two from the Cambodians, and other drug-related paraphernalia. A provincial Anti-Drug Police officer who asked not to be named told Khmer Times yesterday that the four suspects were active drug dealers who always brought drugs to sell to foreign tourists at nightclubs or restaurants frequented by foreigners in the province.

“They were drug dealers who sold drugs to foreign tourists in the province. Police investigated and followed them for weeks before we could crack down and arrest them for real offenses,” he said. He added that the four suspects were sent to the provincial prison.

What, despite weeks of surveillance, no major supplier arrested.  They have to get the drugs from somewhere.  Now, one must not be over critical as they did arrest four alleged offenders for real offences, whatever that means, maybe they had real drugs and did real deals.  Given the way it has been written, it suggests these lot were not high up on the food chain, whilst those who are remain free to use other fools to sell their crap.  Regardless, if they are convicted and given reasonable sentences then it is another four low lifes less to worry about.
