Update on Samui Immigration needs for Retirement Extension August 2016

Visas issued by Thai consulates abroad are NOT the same requirements as extensions issued by Immigration, and most people here fully understand that.

Visas issued abroad for retirement also require police clearances from the applicant's home country. Retirement extensions through Thai Immigration do not, not in Samui, and not in any other office either.

The only comparable analogy would be if the Thai consulates in the U.S. required medical certifs and police clearances, while the Thai consulates in the UK did not.  But it doesn't work that way. They all have pretty much the same requirements because they follow the same rules adopted by the MFA...

Just as most Immigration offices follow the rules adopted by Immigration HQ without throwing in added requirements, except for Samui and a few others with different quirks. That doesn't make them right.

BTW, for someone who think the hospital cert being required by Samui is a "stupid unnecessary requirement," you're going to pretty great lengths to defend it.

I was simply pointing out that medical requests for over 50's wanting permission to stay for 1 year already exists. So for me it's not a surprise that it's being asked for at retirement extensions.

As you brought up the subject, the comparable analogy is that Embassies and Consulates across the world apply different rules/requirements when issuing visas even though the MFA have a website detailing what one could consider set requirements.

How am I defending it? I'm just disagreeing with your unfounded claims and opinion.

I have never heard of any thai immigration office demanding a medical report accompany an application for an extension based upon retirement at any location but Samui... this demand is outrageous and unacceptable...and any defense of such a demand is apologist BS...

similarly with the recent demand at some offices for MFA certification of income affidavits from embassies...if there is an immigration hotline (1111) then why don't people use it? I suggest that those that don't are 'useless', not those that vigorously object to this abuse...

Have been told the birdman is back, maybe the reason for the regression

Is this true? Can anyone confirm? Did my 90 day report quite recently, no trace of the man (he used to go outside smoking a lot, no such sightings recently...).

Samui immigration chain of command is from Hat Yai > Surat thani, > Samui.

Any confirmation about this ???? :

The move has been planned for some time but the new building was not ready yet. It seems to be done now.

What is the source of the notice you posted.

Does anyone ever "fail" the medical exam at Samui?  What do they do with retirees who are close to death's door?  Toss 'em off the island?
