No Aspirin In Pattaya ?

Featured Replies

What the  ------   is going on here  All the pharmacies have been out of Bayer aspirin for about 3 months.

So there is only one aspirin supplier in Pattaya. All the pharmacy staff say "out of stock" ?

That's weird.

Normal dose?

Do you need that brand?

There are issues sometimes with the low dose stuff that's used daily for prevention therapy.

Just regular 500mg aspirin. I take it for hangovers . If there is another brand Ive not seen it. Try looking for aspirin here.

Aspirin everywhere as normal

Have you tried the big Faschino chemist shop on North Pattaya road ?

You could also use Paracetamol for hangovers  they sell   "Para" everywhere even 7/11

Aspirin is rarely used here as a painkiller.

No way as popular as in the west.

I am not quite sure about the reason.

I only know that it is dangerous stuff when catching malaria due to its blood thinning effect.

Paracetamol is the main substance in the no. 1 seller "Tiffy".

You get that EVERYWHERE.

Pure Paracetamol only (nothing added) is sold as "SaRa" brand.

You get that almost everywhere.

I think that is the major reason why its not popular here.

That said  I have found it for sale  in several  Watsons and Boots  as well as Faschino.

Rethinking, I mixed it up.

I remember the ordeal of a German guy from Pattaya who caught dengue fever (not malaria) and at the same time was on regular treatment with Aspirin (ASS) as blood thinner.

Dengue fever is even more widespread than malaria and at the beginning might feel like an ordinary influenza.

Be cautious with Aspirin in Thailand.

(more like a topic for the health forum)

Which ever one the Thais call  "Kai leut owk"   think you're correct its Dengue fever.

I tend to use Aspirin for hangover headaches and Paracetamol for cold/flue  headaches just in case.

Of course I could have a hangover and Dengue fever at the same time then I'd be in trouble.

Asprin is known and sold in Thailand as Aspent and it's available at all pharmacies, try asking for Aspent.

Bayer Thailand is out of stock, if it's the 500 mg that comes in a greenisch package you are looking for. ETA is 2-3 months. Same in all pharmacies in BKK too.

There is the 81 mg alternative, but 5x as expensive/gram.

You have to wonder why paracetamol is so easily available here. All the 7Elevens stock it like candy.

Irony here: Paracetamol can damage the liver once you go over a daily limit, whereas aspirin can protect the liver against damage caused by paracetamol. A lot of people living here are heavy on the bottle, so paracetamol could easily overstress their already stressed livers, inducing liver cholestasis. That can take months to recover from - it's no picnic.

Never heard it called "aspent"      more   like   "azz-par-in"  to my ear

There are other brands, but Bayer is the main supplier of pure aspirin.

Logistics in Thailand going bananas is not exactly uncommon....

Aspent is a brand name for a low dose aspirin (baby as-pai-lin) - 81mg - another is Cardiprin.

One reason full strength aspirin fell out of favour is because it causes problems for people with ulcers, bleeding and so on. I'm sure there are other reasons.

@ThailandLOS       What are the names of other brands please.

Aha  so Aspent and Cardiprin are other brand names, thanks.

As mentioned above, Aspent is one for the 81 mg that come in silverisch sheets of 10. Got this one today and it's pure. Most pharmacies carry it. Just say it's for your heart and they will understand.

Probably started with Bayer Thailand having a small supply shortage.. which gave all the Bayer execs a headache... they used their aspirin for that headache causing a larger supply shortage.

End result all production being consumed by Bayer execs and none for the market.

The clue to Thai aspirin being called Aspent is the fact that the label on the the small bottle they come is spells out the letters, ASPENT.

Also, the thing about baby aspirin that many people don't know is that if you take four of them they morph from being baby aspirin into being big boy aspirin, neat eh!

could try drinking less =no hangovers

One of the things to bring back when you are out of the country. Bottle of 1,000 dirt cheap in the USA

I bought some (not Bayers) at Fascino's a couple of days ago.

There was a scare awhile ago about aspirin, children and Reye's Syndrome or anaphylactic reaction and there were resultant restrictions on its sales. As someone else said, various forms of acetaminophen are more popular.

:) Wild comfort partying with exec assistants might have added to the demand causing further shortage

Actually it was removed from market when link to Reye's Syndrome was publicized years ago and when again allowed it had a strong stigma.  Internal bleeding is often a negative for adults.

Available Brands

Alcohol and Paracetamol are a bad combo potentially leading to liver disease. Stick with aspirin or ibuprofen which is available in Thailand.

I get mine (80mg baby aspirin) sent from U.S.A. from Ebay, 1 years supply in a bottle, and cheaper with the postage than you can buy here with no postage :)

I checked, you're right, that's pretty weird is it not:
