BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan says investigations into the recent spate of bomb and arson attacks in seven provinces have made much progress and reiterates it has no link with southern insurgency.

Gen Prawit said one suspect had been arrested but declined to give further details, adding he wanted authorities to do their jobs first and would give details later.

But he said what he could say the arson and bomb attacks had nothing in connection with neither the unrest in deep south nor the Uyghur terrorists.

Neither insurgents in the South nor any group made claims on the current attacks (similarly and very oddly, nor did the Uighurs group claim the Erawan attack). In this case, a mastermind could have hired local elements using Malaysian phones for a simple ruse.  Meanwhile,  police have proven time and time again they don't really want to investigate properly, seemingly more inclined to find scapegoats (ala Koh Tao murder investigation).

Whoever is behind this,  they do seem very angry and responding in a targeted way (South yes vote areas/on a Royal day), also they appear bent on trying to de-rail tourism (thus the economy) and moreover destabilise Thailand all in advance of a difficult transition period.

Just one of many similar incidents since 2006 to now and one expects it will get worse in the near term. Not a junta fan-boy but given many past incidents, patterns and what's likely coming, the Army is unfortunately/regretfully highly needed during this time period to maintain a civil society and to preserve law and order (cannot count on the mainly 'tomato'  police, as we've seen many times in the past).

The police says here tonight that At least 20 people, most of them Muslims and from the insurgency-plagued South, were involved in the deadly bombings in seven provinces early this month, national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda says

For the first time they admit its the separatist in the south :wai2:

As usual the junta never lets the truth get in the way of their agenda or propaganda.

Yes indeed the troops are using the GT200 to "sniff" out the culprits.

From same article:  the group "might have been hired" by others to carry out the attacks

If there has been 'much progress' then there shouldn't be a problem with telling people what it is - no?

Unless it's a secret...

Yep, because most countries divulge all the information during the course of an investigation don't they? Maybe we could put Thaigeezers on the case- reading the comments above it would be solved in minutes. :wai2:

You haven't quite got the hang of 'the Thainess' thing yet, have you? Perhaps you're another one who's been here for precisely 10 minutes and are an expert already, or perhaps you've been here for ages and just haven't been paying attention. Let me clue you in.

Thais tell lies to bolster their self-esteem and 'face', which are catastrophically low, even though most of them are narcissistic. In the world at large, believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see. In Thailand, don't believe a thing. Ever.

If this guy shook my hand, I'd count my fingers afterwards. Cynical? Nope, I just understand Thainess, for him, telling lies is like breaking wind, it's a natural part of who he is. Not to be trusted, not in any form, nor to any extent.

Reminds me of that French President of yore declaring in front of national TV (my, poor, translation): 'Yesterday, France was at the edge of a steep cliff, since then we have made a big step forward', LOL! 'Bomb probe makes much progress', sad for Thailand and the Thais to have such clowns in charge, but he painted a smile on my face, maybe I even wake up in a laughter thanks to him, my (Thai) wife will ask me why, but once told she will (though an antagonist of anything Shin or red) sleep in again, with a satisfied 'ah, you understand'... What a bunch! When, all, the others wouldn't have been that very bad, for years, what credit could they claim, when any, would they still have a single toe to stand on...? Oh my...

Tell the same about all politicians of the land, how many are police and military brass, of all sides, and I'd fully agree with you! The trouble is, IMHO, that the present bunch of ..., is 'less-bad' for the country than all the others, single and together, since Chuan, ...and that is the huge, mega, problem this country is confronted with: ...less-bad seems to be the best it can get!

I would rather have, any time, politicians serving the citizens and the nation right and well while wearing an 'un-appetizing' face, rather than handsome oily crooks! But having some un-appetizing one it's not easy (for me) to tell whether he could be fair-and-square,  or definitely not, telling things which would hardly make it in free-print as a fairy tale for disadvantaged kids, is, admittedly, a bit of a stretch... He would, no doubt, have made it into that Bunny cartoon where 'the good guys' had a basket game against 'the monsters', yeah, yeah, with Plodprasop in his team, oh, and 'cousin/uncle' ET...
