This post is probably very accurate .  

Addirionally , about 20 years ago rape in prison was punishable by death. I don't know if it still is .   I was a Thai government  guest touring the prisons (not an inmate ). I always assumed they showed me only the best and cleanest facilities .

it's not particularly. there are many foreign criminals in the uk and spain is a popular destination for those on the run...
