Two suspected drug traffickers were convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday after police said the two trafficked nearly 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district in 2015. Presiding judge Bun Thy said Moeng Davy, a 40-year-old woman working in the sand business, and Lam Hong Kheang, a 20-year-old unemployed man, had been charged with drug trafficking under article 40 of the Law on Drug Control.

“The court sentenced both to 30 years in prison,” he said. Ms. Davy and Mr. Kheang were arrested by Ministry of Interior Anti-drug police in Russey Keo district on May 19, 2015.

Lieutenant Colonel Kong Sithun, a penal police officer working with the anti-drug police, said Ms. Davy was the principal drug trafficker and hired Mr. Kheang to help her purchase drugs at a Caltex gas station along National Road 5 in Russey Keo commune. Police followed the pair and arrested them at the gas station, later discovering they had 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine on them.
“They were arrested while they purchased drugs at the Caltex station,” he said.
