I recently signed up for Thailand Travel Shield 'tourist' health insurance. One can only sign up outside Thailand and must note one's arrival flight and date. Then the insurance starts ticking for 60 days on a one-year policy before leaving and re-entering to start another 60 days.

Sponsored by TAT in cooperation from Muangthai, Siam City, Chao Phaya, and Krungthai Panich, the programme is covered by German insurer Allianz Global and appears to even cover medivac.

B12,000 for B2,000,000 annual coverage beats foreign insurers hands-down. However, have any readers had occasion to claim or have bad or good experiences with the programme?

I have no experience with the program.

It looks interesting. However, a key exclusion is that people living in Thailand are not eligible. I am guessing that simply leaving the country briefly every 60 days is not going to be sufficient to bypass this exclusion, and the policy might end up being voided when you need it.

Considering worry free Health cover will run you upwards off B100,000 (Depending on age) a year with people such as AXA PPA, then as long as your not easily disappointed and hopefully never need it, then a plan for B12,000 should be fine.
Personally, I really cannot see they can offer too much for that kind of money.
My health care in Thailand is nearly double what I pay in the UK for the same cover, which brings it to around B130,000 a year. I admit it is a top cover policy and you could get cheaper and cut it down should you wish.

You can not compare travel insurance with health cover.
