Car rent (Doi inthanon + elephants + ...)

Just came to chiang mai today. Don't have a plan yet how long I will stay but I'm thinking to rent a car and go to doi inthanon and on the way go to some elephant farm/sanctuary.

I think that is better/cheaper then book 2 seperate tours (I'm paying for 2 persons). Is elephant jungle sanctuary advisable? I see good reviews and its on the way to doi inthanon.

Also, I was thinking to maybe go to chiang rai to see white temple and anything interesting on the way (in that case, I would rent a car for 2 days).

 

What do you think? What are your suggestions? What are the prices for entrance to doi inthanon and elephant farm/sanctuary? (I see mostly whole tour prices, not just entrance ticket)

better one day go to Doi Inthanon, and another day to another place

if you wanna go to Chiang Rai, better go to Chiang Rai and Golden Triangle, if you wake up 5:00am come back just 9:00pm

Chiang rai is out so I will just go inthanon+elephants and then south.

What elephants are best to visit (not to expensive and not to far.. )?

 

I will rent a car from CM airport and leave in bkk.
