I understand I can get  a multiple entry Non-O visa (1 year) in Penang.

If not married to a Thai and over 55, what are the required documents?

Do you have to show your criminal record from your home country?

Do you need a verification letter from your Thai bank stating the required funds (800.000 TB)?

Do you have to show a medical certificate?

Listing from the consulate is giving here but I find them confusing:

Has somebody applied recently and could give first-hand info?

It has been stated multiple times in this forum that a multiple Non O for being over the age of 50 (retirement purposes) is not available anywhere in the region. Several consulates (possibly including Penang) will issue a single  Non O with financial proof (bank either inside or outside Thailand). You then extend your entry in the normal way inside Thailand.

I think Penang will issue a Multiple Entry Non 'O', but you need to show 800K or 65K income.

Penang will issue a multiple entry non-O based on retirement if you can show 800.000 in a Thai bank or 65K income  by embassy letter.

Same as immigration within Thailand do for 1.900 baht..

Assuming it is true, this may still be worthwhile. You need a single Non O anyway (or a sometimes inconvenient conversion) and the multiple Non O eliminates the need for a re-entry permit if you travel. Further, it is possible that no seasoning would be needed, and they would accept money in bank accounts outside Thailand.

Penang wants to see money in Thai bank now according to my friend two moths ago.

For multiple non-O, Savannahet provides it without financial proof.

But are you sure it is a multiple non-O for non-married farangs?

They state on their website:

page 16: multiple non-O, 1 year, 550 RM (obviously, but not expressly for marriage)

then page 18: Non-OA, Long-stay, single, 3 months, 220 RM (...???)

Confusing.

And please does your friend remember on the docs?

Savannakhet will not do a multiple entry non-o visa for being 50 or over. Even a single entry for that purpose is difficult there.

There have been reports that Penang will issue a multiple entry non-o visa for being 50 or over if you can show the financial proof. The fee for a multiple entry non-o visa is now 750 RM (fees went up a year ago).

Just ignore the OA visa info since you will not be able to get one unless your a Malaysian or a legal resident there.

Update on Non-O in Penang (not married, not retired):

You only get a Non-O in Penang for 3 months which you can extend for up to one year in Thailand.

These are the requirements as per today:

- you need 400.000 Baht in a Thai bank account

- you need a bank statement over this amount

- you need a "declaration statement" from you embassy in Bangkok over this amount (or if you have pension, a retirement letter)

- 1 copy of passport

- 2 pics

- your yellow book, or if you live in a rented house, the rental contract

- fee 300 MYR

I am just about to book a trip to Penang to get ME Non O based on marriage.

I got 2 bank statements from Bangkok bank yesterday showing I have had at least 400k for 2 months. I got these in both Thai and English.

I don't need this declaration thing from embassy do I?

Can I double check to make sure I have everything. I would hate to get to Penang and find something is out of order.

I got:

Proof of 400k (Not taking any proof of income)

Marriage cert and คร2 kor ror 2.

Copy of wifes id card before and after her name change

Copy of her tabian bahn

Photos

Is this everything?

With the docs I am taking originals plus a variety of copies of each. Black n white, signed and unsigned. But havn't dated anything.

I was going to use jims visa service but the chulia mansion hotel has a (supposedly new) in house visa agent. Staying there anyway so will just use them.

About to book all this stuff up so hopefully this is correct?

I will have a return ticket back to Thailand I assume this will satisfy Penang when I enter at airport.

When I came to Bangkok from USA the other day. The check inn staff in Miami asked "do you hold residency in Thailand" (No) and almost made me buy a ticket back to home country. Luckily my travel letter from my employer and his misunderstang of it (he thought i was joining a ship in bangkok as opposed to leaving one on miami) got me through this. In future holding this non o visa should be enough right to stop these occasional check in issues?

Yes and some that are not needed. Be sure your wife signs her house book and ID card copies.

No need for proof of income if you the 400k in the bank.

Sitting at KL now waiting to get home.

Stayed at Chulia mansion which was nice mid range accomodation.

Got jims place to do my visa. 820rm. It was 750 for visa the rest for jim.

Documents were ok and all without a hitch.

1 thing to note is that jim doesnt give receipts. So you give him your passport and cash and have nothing to show for that. His service was fine though and he seems down to earth.

This is 20m from chulia mansion.

Chulias supposed new in house visa service doesn't exist and they just say they will call them to come and see you at the hotel. Jim mentioned that some people were getting hassled from chulias agent and went to him.

Also a guy i was talking to had an issue getting a non b through jim so perhaps something to think about.

Thanks for the advice
