Documents for Non O/A visa (UK)

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for clarification regarding the supporting documentation required for getting a Non O/A on basis of retirement (over 50) in London - I know the list of requirements, but not clear on specifics.

1) Proof of equivalent of 800k baht in UK account. Are original bank statements ok or is something more needed (letter from bank)? Can the money be in various accessible saver accounts?

2) Police clearance certificate - apparently they don't provide them in the UK. What is acceptable to the embassy and how do I go about getting one? Can it be done online, and how close to the time of visa application should it be?

3) Medical certificate - any particular wording or format?

4) I seem to recall reading something about all the above needing to be notarized, is this necessary? If so what does this entail?

Any experience or insight is much appreciated, thanks.

Details on how to apply for a non-OA visa in London are set out on the Embassy's website at

http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/51  In short:-

1) A bank letter confirming that you hold an account with them may be required if their statements do not include a postal address for them. A mix of accounts should be OK, but please note that the £14,000 figure referred to only equates to 630,000 THB at the present exchange rate of around 45 THB to the £. You would therefore be strongly advised to prove finances on the basis of at least £18,000 in total.

2) What you need is a subject access disclosure which you can request from your local police force. Click on the ACRO website at  https://www.acro.police.uk/subject_access.aspx to see how you can go about obtaining this.

3) Click on the "Medical Record" link under item 7 under the Medical Records heading on the Embassy website to see what is involved by way of the medical certificate.

4) All application docs need to be certified by a Notary Public or a solicitor. If you click on the "Solicitors"  link on the Embassy website up should then pop details of a law firm in Covent Garden who can perform this service. But should you wish to opt for a Notary Public instead (although this is generally more expensive) you should be able to identify one in your neighbourhood via The Notaries Society's website at http://search.thenotariessociety.org.uk/
