As the title posits, are BMW parts and repairs so expensive one has to take out a loan to pay for them? I ask because as a current promo, I see BMW Thailand are offering interest free loans for 8 months on repairs and servicing done during some current campaign on out of waranty vehicles. They are also offering "up to" 25% off on OEM parts (and still presumebly making money despite the parts discount and free interest). This campaign is enough to scare me away from ever buying or owning a BMW.

Imported vehicles attract about 320% in duties and taxes making them much more expensive than developed

countries like Australia

Total waste of money they only get you from A to B like all other vehicles and do not impress most people

and generally speaking depreciate quicker

If you look on eBay you will find many corollas with over 200000 miles. You would be hard pressed to find a Ferrari with 75000 miles.tune ups for Ferrari's can easily eclipse $10000.
If you want to play you gotta pay!

All kinds of car deals are announced to get buyers interested I guess some farangie buy them but l don't think all of them buy for same reason as some Thai people do, as for Thailand top of the range BM's and Merc's are obviously for the very well off.

Don't know why high mileage Corolla's are mentioned but usually known for use as Taxis and for a very reason.

There's a non-dealer bmw garage not far from my place. The seem to do a roaring trade with 20-30 late and early model cars always parked out the front....they tells a bit about dealer services charges. Was surprised to see a number of late model cars there too.

Would have considered a euro car but the long term costs are staggering.

Yes basically after the five-year warranty expires you can't give it away much less sell the damn thing. BMW is a status symbol in Thailand. Much like driving a R.R. in the west. It says that you are rich and can afford it.

Even the C series "made in Thailand" Mercedes is selling for nearly three times the price of the German made version. If they charged any less it would lose its appeal and status.
