Bangkok taxi driver shot dead as gunman flees on Pakistani ice-cream seller's motorbike

BANGKOK: -- A taxi driver was shot dead east of Bangkok with his taxi ending up in a pond.

 

Then the assailant used the same gun to threaten a Pakistani ice-cream seller before disappearing on his motorbike, reported Sanook.

 

The drama happened Tuesday next to a pond where fish are reared in the Theparak Road area of Bang Plee east of Bangkok.

 

Police found the taxi driver dead by the side of the pond and his taxi virtually submerged in the water.

 

Pond owner Apiwat Petchnoi said that he had seen the taxi at a distance pull up by the side of the water and thought nothing of it.

But then he heard a gunshot and saw the taxi rolling into the pond as a black shirted man with short hair ran off.

 

He ran over and helped the taxi driver from his seat and put him by the side of the pond as he phoned for help. But the taxi driver died.

 

Sanook.com reported that the gunman then stole a motorbike belonging to a Pakistani ice-cream seller and made good his escape.

Did you expect that only Eskimos can sell ice-creams?

In an earlier story, a lot of people said they didn't want taxi drivers to have anything they could use for personal protection. I wonder how many of these guys die a year for a life on the road and little money in their pockets.

Is that not a thai reserved occupation ??(not shooting people) I mean icecream seller ?

It's certainly a catchy headline

He got the license as an ice cream seller to improve Thailand's food hygiene standards. Remember the Name "Pakistan" is most common translated to 'Land of the Pure'. 

Why not just a Ice cream cart,What did the Pakistani bit have to do with it? (illegal worker) Maybe the Taxi driver tried to rip him off,,,,Jus dribbling,,,,maybe that's Karma,,,

I thought only Thais could be food vendors in Thailand.

Or is it only white foreigners who are restricted as to what jobs they can have here?

Not a very appropriate translation.  I am in Pakistan on a job and pure is not a word that springs to mind

Great how everybody has fun with the Pakistani and his profession.

That headline is not short of Adjectives.

What does the writer want to tell us? ice cream vendor is Pakistani,so <deleted> do u want to say? Is his nationality  relevant to the case? What Flavours are his IC???

Stop me and buy one has now been superseded,   by stop me and get shot

....doubt the taxi driver was a victim....

Yep. It's a term of abuse used by racist bigots. 

We have in this area, 3-4 guys selling ,'Roties", the flat pancake sweets ,that are cooked  on  they hot plate, one guy uses a pushbike , others use a motorbikes and sidecars ,all are from the Indian sub continent ,been  doing it for some years , so non Thais can be food venders , un less as has been said  ,it applies to non whites only. 

Back to the subject, I would say  a revenge killing ,or some one some where  lost face big time .

Can Pakistanis legally sell ice-cream in Thailand? That's a Thai job.

Taxi drivers are already dangerous enough with only a steering wheel in their hands. Imagine what it would be like if they were allowed to arm themselves...

It doesn't matter because the taxi driver obviously asked for a flavour that he didn't have
