Phuket Vegetarian Festival, what kind of drug do they drink ?

Hi, I wonder what kind of drug they take to be so high during the Phuket Vegetarian Festival processions ?

The stuff must be strong to put knives in your body !

Been living here in Phuket for 13 years and see the Veggie Festival every year, and some of the preparations by the "ma", the holy horses who insert everything from needles to swords, copper plumbing tubes, etc. Just now talked to my wife who has brother who participates, and I have seen the gent with the hardware sticking out. I asked what "ya" do they use and she says none at all, it is a religious trance. Double checked to make sure I understood and she was not kidding. Just power of the mind ...
