Hi all, I currently have a non b visa based on marriage, which I got from Savvanakhet easily enough. However I have divorced since then, so I imagine it can't be extended.

I look after my child and am at home most of the day, I was wondering what I would need to prove that I take care of my child in terms of documents. Again, I plan to go to Savannakhet, so I was hoping to hear from posters that have been to that specific consulate/embassy. I know places like Penang are stricter.

Could someone tell me what documents Savvanakhet ask for and how much the visa costs. Lastly, would it be possible to obtain a work permit on such a visa?

thanks

I assume you meant you got a non-o visa based upon marriage before not a non-b visa.

You can only get a single entry non-o visa in Savannakhet based upon being the parent of a Thai.

If you want a multiple entry visa you can apply for it in Penang but will need to show 400k baht in the bank or proof of income.

To apply for the non-o visa you will need your child's birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of their house book registry.

Since you apparently was married when your child was born you could apply for a one year extension at immigration based upon being the parent of a Thai. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income. You would need to show at least joint custody of your child granted when you got divorced.

You can get a work permit  and work with a non-o visa or extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai.

The work permit isn't really important, it was a question of curiosity more than anything in case circumstances changed later down the line.

It's what I need to show as proof at Savvanakhet that I need to know.

In addition to the above you can also apply for a 60 day extension to visit your child (1,900 baht). It can be done once per new entry to the country.

Ok, how long is the single non entry o? To answer your first question, yes I did mean O not B visa.

A single entry "O" visa allows one 90 day stay in Thailand.

Hi,

You have a Non-O based on marriage, correct?

And after that you divorced, correct?

You left open if you were married the moment the child was born. As well is it that you have the custody registered at the Amphur?

Regarding the Birth Certificate. The Birth Certificate is not always accepted as proof of you are the Fatter. Therefore if you are registered at the Amphur it is better to take a recent copy provided by that Amphur of that registration with you. You need that copy also when you apply for the visa in Thailand at the immigration office also to convert the entree Visa to a NON-O visa for 1 Year.

Regarding visa and divorce. The moment you divorced the Vis Non-O based on marriage with the Thai national is not valid.

Why did no one advised you the easy way and told you that you could have converted your Non-0 based on marriage to based on Thia child before you divorced?

Also, hope your lawyer was smart if you went to court and did apply for custody so you can have the child to stay at your place.

To proof of care you also need to show some photos that show the child is with you; also needed when you apply for the NON-O Visa at the immigration office. not forget the one with you and the child and the house with the house number

Yes its a non o visa and yes we divorced. The child was born in wedlock and has my name as well as a Thai and British passport. I am on the birth certificate.

Regarding the birth certificate, I appreciate your comments but as the original post states, it is only what is accepted at Savvanakhet that I am interested in. Regarding the visa I am fairly sure its valid until it expires, I think you only need to show proof of wedlock at the time of application. I've asked about this before and I'm fairly sure that was the answer I was given . Could be wrong though.
