BANGKOK: -- The Royal Irrigation Department has allayed fear that the increased discharge of water from Pasak Cholasit dam in Lop Buri will lead to possible flooding in the economic zone or residential communities in Koh Kred district of Nonthaburi province.

Mr Thongplaew Kongchan, deputy director-general of the RID, explained on Sunday that the increased discharge of water from the Pasak Cholasit to 60 million cubic metre per day from about 55 million cubic metre was meant to maintain a balance of the inflow of water into the dam and the outflow of water from the dam because the dam is now almost full so that there will be space in the dam to absorb more water inflow.

The efforts, he said, are intended to prevent the dam from overflowing which will cause extensive damage to residential areas and farmland in the upper region of the dam.

Earlier on Saturday, the governor of Nonthaburi warned people living near river banks in the province to brace for possible flooding as a result of increased discharge of excess water from Pasak Cholasit dam.

BANGKOK: -- PEOPLE LIVING downstream from the Chao Phraya River dam in Chainat were warned yesterday of possible flooding as more water had to be released from the dam following heavy downpours upstream.

Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the government had instructed the governors of Chainat, Uthai Thani, Singburi, Angthong, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri and Ayutthaya to warn their people to be on alert as the Chao Phraya could burst its banks.

Companies, shops, floating restaurants and households along the river should move their valuables upstairs, he said.

We have all heard of "alternating current" relating to electricity but now we have "drought, flood, drought, flood etc" every year.  It does not stop there, as we also have "democracy, coup, democracy, coup and so on".  When does it all end?

Can monkey's swim !

They sure ain't capable of water management.

Repeating same water equation annually and expecting different outcome shows immense stupidity or insanity .

More water storage capacity is needed so farming can be maximised and rain season water can be drained at slower rates is needed. Should of been started a decade ago, can't believe buck banana didn't get cracking on this as soon as stomped in office, way more important than 80bt lottery ticket and is costing the country billions ...
