Antibiotic IV treatment? - Lyme

Featured Replies

Hi! I will travel to Thailand soon and intend to treat Lyme disease during this time. I hope to get a treatment plan from a doctor in Germany which I can then follow in Thailand. It seems that antibiotics can be bought over-the-counter from what I read, but is it possible to get IV antibiotic treatment if I go to a doctor or hospital? Thanks for any insight.

If you have a treatment plan, written in English,  requesting treatment be continued whilst in Thailand there should not be a problem.  IV therapy will only be available from a hospital.

Be aware that medical care is not free in Thailand and consultations, medication etc attracts charges.

Thanks! Yes, I understand, but I'm hoping it will be a lot cheaper than in Europe.

As above. Provided you have doctors letter with diagnosis and prescribed treatment, should be able to get this in a hospital....but you will either have to be admitted or go once/twice a day for it.

Ask the doctor to recommend a single daily regimen if possible. Even then, be prepared for the hospital to want you to be an inpatient, but with effort may  be able to persuade them to let you come as outpatient daily.

Treatment will likely not be as inexpensive as you expect. Very hard to arrange such a thing at a government hospital and private hospitals mark up drug costs enormously.  Especially if the drug you require is only available in imported brand, may cost you more than in Europe.

Hmm, thanks for the insight, Sheryl. I emailed for prices on some detox treatments and they did some much more expensive than I had expected. Then they proposed all this other stuff bringing the total cost much too high. I get the impression that they are very profit-hungry. I will have to see what doctors in Germany say. Maybe, at the least, I can do some cheaper detox treatments there. My budget is pretty tight.

How is 'Detox' related to the treatment of Lyme disease ?

For one, there are toxins left in the body from Lyme even after antibiotic treatment. Then, many people who have lyme symptoms returning after a standard treatment, have confounding factors such as high toxicity in the body which weakens the immune system. Lyme is an opportunistic disease which takes hold when there is weakness in the immune system. For me, I had previously gotten sick from a moldy apartment and need to detox because of this.
